Here is our record under Roy this year starting on the 1st of Jan 2020 it does not look good: This is based on league games in 2020? Played 28 games, 7 wins, 5 clean sheets Of those 28 games, 12 of those were against teams that were in the top 9 last season, this means we have 16 games against teams in the bottom half of the league which makes the record above even worse. we would be sitting on 25pts with 10 games to play needing 12 to 15pts if this was based on a 38 game season For all those fans saying Roy is doing a good job, we can’t change cause we don’t have the players & so on we’ll read the above again: As it stands we are not even averaging a goal a game but are averaging conceding 1.5 goals a game despite playing negative tactics. We have kept 1 clean sheet in the last 18 games Leeds don’t have no where near a squad like ours but have a manager that has belief & brave yes they will lose some but they also going to win some & are exciting to watch - Bamford who deemed useless is getting chance after chance being created & surprise surprise is scoring a few goals yes he is missing some but the more chances you get the more chance you have of scoring. We need more chances being created for our strikers & then they might score more - for example if Benteke got 5 or 6 chances like the header he had against Newcastle he probably would end up scoring from 1 then the other 5 would be forgotten but cause he only gets 1 chance & misses its magnified. Unfortunately it’s time Roy moved on he really is not doing as good as job as some think the stats above do not lie, he also has by far the best squad with depth that we have ever had & therefore has got to produce better results. We have no longevity with Roy & why there are 3 much poorer teams Sheff Utd, WBA & Fulham now is the time to bed in a new manager using the rest of this season to be prepared for next season so that we can kick on. If the rumours are true & the ITK are right then Eddie Howe is who Palace plan on appointing for next season well why wait I say do it now. I would love to hear from those that can still find a valid argument to keep Roy based on those stats above.

I would love to hear from those that can still find a valid argument to keep Roy based on those stats above. I wouldn’t pay any attention to the so called ITK on this forum, they all spout nonsense which I would say is my opinion but could possibly be verified as fact by now. If this were true however, and it sounds plausible, I’d say with the current way things are going (I haven’t fact checked stats but they ring true to me) there’s every chance we could find ourselves well in the relegation battle by January with SP having some track record of making tough decisions when disaster is afoot. We could see a change sooner. I’ve posted some damning statements about Roy in the past 24 hours but in truth I’ve always been quietly agreeing with his position. 2020’s form however has been pretty miserable and I think the straw for me has been the last two results, they are not outliers causing me to blow my top but the final push I’d been avoiding to put me in that camp. Personally, I’d of course like to see us stay above the relegation zone comfortably though undoubtedly with no thrills and have Roy bow out on respectable terms. I think the man undoubtedly deserves that but the manager may not get that chance.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I don't wish to be drawn into any rumours or speculation about Roy Hodgson's position and a successor. All I will assert is that I accept that results in 2020 have been disappointing and the football generally turgid but we have 15 outfield players in the squad who are either 29 or in their 30s,and whilst they have experience, their physicality and mobility has perhaps waned with age, not forgetting the fact that older players can become injury prone and sometimes take longer to recover. We are a hard watch, have been for some time but we have managed to survive season on season.

The stats are damning. What's frustrating is seeing teams come up from the championship over the years and immediately leapfrog us as a perceived and in some cases an actual better team. I'm talking about the likes of Leicester, Wolves... Aston Villa almost got relegated last season and suddenly with the right acquisitions (Martínez, Watkins, Traoré, Barkley on loan), they're moving in the right direction. I'm sure expectations are that Leeds will stay up this season which would be the club's target, but following that no doubt they will kick on too and be considered better than us. We need a rebuild of team, philosophy and manager which need to start happening now beginning with identifying the new manager by creating the long list of considerations for the position regardless of ongoing performances by current team and manager. Investment in January has to be free transfers or loans as when the new manager arrives in the summer 2021 (assuming Hodgson is given the full season), they will need a full transfer kitty of no less than £50m and anything else that can be made from player sales (which is likely to be next to nothing). My immediate short term concerns are the typical ones: With the last point to add to the stats, we fielded the oldest starting XI in a Premier league game this season against Newcastle. Even damning is the fact that we've named 10 of the 11 oldest starting XIs in the Premier league this season. We need to continue to address this and invest in youth like Eze and Ferguson, but I'm not naïve to the value of the right experienced player that can bring to the squad and quality. Just no sicknotes on stupid wages please! Regarding 2021 expiries as I understand it the following all have 2021 contract expiries: Clyne (Jan), Batshuayi (May), then in June: Cahill, McArthur, Hennessey, Sakho, Benteke, PvA, Dann, Townsend, Guaita, Kelly, Ward, Meyer, Wickham, Schlupp, Tyrick Mitchell. That's a full starting XI plus subs so as we need to be pragmatic and give the right contract extensions (even to some players that aren't "doing it" right now) but also think about selling 1 to 3 players in Jan at the risk of losing them for nothing.

Willo whilst I agree with some of what you say it’s time people stopped making excuses for Roy regardless of the age of the squad he by far a stronger squad than any of our previous managers, for example he has 4 if you include Zaha very good strikers previous managers had the likes of Jerome, Campbell, Wickham, Adebyour, I think you get my point. Yes Roy has not had a lot of money but we should still be competing with the likes of Southampton, Villa, West Ham. There are teams that have much lower budgets than us in terms of money spent or wages on offer & have achieved more than us for example Burnley, Leicester when they won the league. It can happen when you have the right man at the helm. However all I want is to see our team play football & create chances & have some excitement win, lose or draw that is not too much to ask.

When I look at the current squad, I see a lot of the players in the 'Twilight' of their careers so perhaps I don't view it as favourably as perhaps many on HOL. With regard to your comment about our strikers, we all know Benteke's failings in front of goal over the past few seasons and Batshuayi's recent scoring record whilst playing against clubs is far from impressive IE 1 goal in the last 24 games and that was against Hull.Ayew did better last season but I wouldn't place him in the category "Very good".We also still have Connor Wickham on our books. Of course I would like to see more progressive football, but alas due to an ageing squad we just don't possess that energy and drive and there is a distinct lack of pace across the pitch. Roy had Bats on the bench in favor of Ayew and Schlupp (they generated no chances). Ayew plays constantly and has contributed nothing. Bats has one bad game, and he's buried on the bench. I think we could agree Eze is our best player not named Zaha? Yet Roy had Eze on the bench a few games ago, and we lost that match. At some point, is it fair to say that Roy's roster decisions are sometimes nonsensical and counterproductive?

These figures are pretty damning but I do not expect a change this season. I like Roy and think he has done a great job, however he is not blameless and should take some responsibility for not wanting flair players and for some players lack of form. If Dougie did have deal in place for Morelos ( as some rumours) but Roy wasn’t interested, then that is Roy’s fault. Camarasa never given a chance. Edited by Spiderman (29 Nov 2020 8.05am)

Benteke had missed several good chances in DeBoer’s four games and then picked up a injury against City which forced Roy to play Zaha and Townsend up front. We were then treated to the penalty debacle against Bournemouth on his return after Allardyce had sacked him from the job and it was all downhill after that as he missed chance after chance. He started the following season equally badly - a header from two feet managing to find Alex McCarthy’s shins in a game at home to Saints which we lost. Not fair to keep pointing the finger at the manager for this one. Edited by Rachid Rachid Rachid (29 Nov 2020 9.57am)

The stats are compelling and damning. Here again are the fixtures for the next few months, given the stats as a guide under Hodgson, getting points on the board, particularly for December, doesn't look too good: December's games: 6 games crammed into one month and us with the oldest squad in the league. Brighton likely to go above us and Hodgson comes to a gentleman's agreement with Parish. January games: New manager in place who takes the month to get his philosophy in place and we start to improve. February games: Bingo! February is going to be an important month if we wish to survive.
