Desperately trying to find something positive to say about tonight, so here it is. I thought we created more decent chances in the last half an hour once Benteke and then Batshuayi came on than in entire hour before it.

Obviously the issue is that both are so low on confidence that they can't score but is it worth having a go at starting them both in a 4-4-2 and see if somehow something clicks?

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

Sounds a useful idea. There are also the silver linings that if they do well and play the full 90 minutes they will go forward with greater confidence, or if they struggle, there will be (sadly) more feared players on the bench.

Would like to see them together. However shot Benteke’s confidence is he’s still good at hold up play and his heading is still pretty good. He might even thrive as a provider rather than scorer.

Two things.
One. Far too much spoken about confidence. Players form comes and goes. But as you said the last 20 minutes we looked fired up up front. Not only Teks and Bats, but Schluppie Kouyate Eze were all buzzing.
Two. Sadly very much doubt our management will turn to anything radical as your plan. If they did I think we would all be behind it. Imagine stirring Zaha into the mix.
We’ve clearly got the players. They just need using right.
Imagine if Teks header had found the net. It could have led to more.

I think Hodgson will go back to his trusted defensive 3 midfielders as we lost the match after bringing on Benteke and Bats.

Just an observation, they both score goals for fun when they play for Belgium, but cannot get a fair crack of the whip under our dinosaur.

Benteke has played in 2 games for Belgium since season 2016-17 and in those games he scored against Cyprus and San Marino. In the 2016-17 season he scored against Gibraltar.

Batshuayi has scored in recent seasons for Belgium against the likes of Iceland,Cyprus, San Marino,Kasakhstan, Tunisia etc etc so hardlly world beaters.
In club matches he has scored a solitary goal in his last 24 games and that was against Hull.

So both should start if we draw a Div 2 club in the FA cup?

Start them both and give em a go. They both have negative confidence, maybe they can support each other and overcome it together.

Stick Wilf on the right, Townsend on the left and say to them, no tricks, no flicks, just hammer the crosses in.

Good plan to at least try, but too radical for Roy
