Apparently top clubs queueing around the block for this kid... Here's hoping that, if this isn't agent hype, we find a way to keep him. Probably involves a development promise (x number of minutes) and a chunky salary.

Think we have more of a chance keeping him now with our Academy etc, than might have been the case a few years back. Also would imagine he has more of a pathway to first team appearances than say man city etc.But who knows the country is full of youngsters who think they have made it before doing there apprenticeship.

And therein lies the rub. How many kids are really good enough to get straight into a senior first 11, not many I reckon. Exceptional talent or talent ahead of its age is a rare find (Rooney, etc). I think the way to keep them though is to show a clear pathway to the first team if we think they are good enough. Maybe we do this maybe we don’t and unless someone is close to how the club operates it is unlikely that we will find out exactly how Palace operates.

Agreed rather like the current England setup if the young players see there is a chance of getting in the first team they will stay.

With the demand for homegrown players set to increase further under the current Brexit path it seems likely that if he is as good as is being made out we will struggle to keep him. However, it is becoming quite a regular occurrence (see recent Jadan Raymond stories) that a young player who most of us have never heard of is suddenly supposedly on the shopping lists of Europe's elite. Is it because we have world class youth players, or, call me cynical, is it their agent hyping them up to get a good deal? It's always exciting to see a young player come through, so I'm hoping he is a star and that he sees his future here. On current form it seems Banks might be the closest to being the next to get a chance.

Totally agree. To see Jude Bellingham called up for the England squad despite having only just started his career is quite ridiculous. It’s a pity salaries aren’t based on achievements within the game, for example you don’t get a pay rise until you’ve made 50 first team appearances and then another when you get to 100.

I think it makes perfect sense to get talented young players to appear at senior level as young as you can nab them. Maybe if we'd had a Nations League back in the day, Wilf would be playing for England now. At the end of the day: grab the talent you can get before somebody else does.
