Would you rather we had bought Watkins thank loaned Bats?

Watkins is clearly good enough for PL

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

And £28m more expensive with an unproven record.

He was very good last night and could be a gem, but we got Eze, Bats and Ferguson for less...

Some people are like Slinkies … not really good for anything, but you can’t help smiling when you see one tumble down the stairs.

One could be brought on loan, for the other you'd have tp cough 25 million without the certainty that he could have made it. It appears now , after the Liverpool game, that he IS good enough for the money. But he was just a Championship center forward who had only played 1 full season as center forward, previously having been used as a winger.

On the other hand, Batshuayi was a certainty at international level, having played well for all Belgium, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and us. And if he doesn't accustom well this year, you can even chise not to pay the money.

So, the Batshuayi deal seems the better one.

I’m actually inclined to agree here.

But knee jerk to start assuming Watkins is the next R9 after one performance and could still go one way or the other for me. I wish him luck though and can’t help but still admit a bit of jealousy. Equally, there’s every chance Bats could have a terrible season. Be interesting to see anyhow

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Also Watkins was never going to come here. Dean Smith helped develop him at Brentford, so believes in him, so obviously he is going to go to Villa.

Ultimately it doesn't matter who we would prefer, it's about who we could afford.

Watkins or Eze is a more relevant question as we couldn't fund both.

Looked at prospectively, we made the wise choice. Retrospectively, we could have been a bit more adventurous and gone for Watkins, but you can't say it's a proven fact at this point--he could finish the season with 3 goals.

Based o the few games this season , Bamford looks decent, where as our experience of him is that he is f*cking awful. Pukki started last season with a flying start, then went to s*it,

Watkins had one decent season in an attacking championship side and was an unknown quantity for defenders, as it was his first as a striker.

I’m not a particular fan of Batshuayi, he doesn’t work hard enough or even jump for headers to play in a system like ours. If you don’t score bundles at Chelsea with the quality balls that they can provide I struggle to see how he will be a success with us. I think the Bournemouth goals on the last day for us, improved his stats for us last time.
I’d be happy if Batshuayi reached the same number of goals as ayew did last year, although I doubt he will add as much to the all round play as Ayew did.

Will have to wait and see. Wouldn’t be surprised if both do ok or sink without trace.

We never bid for Watkins and never had a chance to sign him so it makes no odds really to think what might have been.

You are right there. We went to Villa near the end of last season and didn't put in a show. If we had beaten them and they went down then it's more of a possibility we could have signed him. I think the club were alerted to him by Clinton Morrison who played with him at Exeter. He is an intelligent technical player who is going to be a major premier league player. Villa are going to a top half team and above this season

It's all very well spending 28 million on a striker but he has to be given regular chances ... and that's an area we fail in miserably over a season. We'll never score 7 in this league in a game as long as we're in it, let alone against a top 4 side. On this basis, Bats is a better deal for us ...

I think Bats and Zaha might actually work together. I don't personally think Ayew and Zaha does. That might change, but at the moment there doesn't seem to be any chemistry and they don't seem to be able to read each other's game. I do think it is because they are both wingers playing as forwards. The first game I saw Watkins in the PL he looked a bit lost and were it not for his pace I wouldn't have said he looked worth the money. And then he scored three past Liverpool. So much with strikers seems to be about confidence to the point that even Bamford can look like a footballer.
