We haven't even finished the second round of matches and yet it is clear that some teams have started the season with little or no defensive organisation. I thought this last week when we exposed Southampton's "high line" and lack of midfield pressure on the ball, and this was reinforced when they let in five more today, most of them for the same reason. Last season the four teams who conceded most goals finished bottom four, with Norwich well adrift after conceding 75. After two games this season West Brom have conceded 8, Fulham and Leeds 7, and Southampton 6. Some of the defending has been pathetic and well below standard for this division. One can also question the set up and game plan of the managers, with too much emphasis on going forward and not enough on shielding the defence. Danny Murphy on MOTD last night highlighted the protection given to our back four by the two Macs, and Roy has always been complimented for the way he sets our team up. I know this has led to criticism from many fans who find our football boring but like many I would rather win 1-0 than lose 3-4. It also seems that the development this season from 4-5-1 to something more akin to 4-4-2 with Wilf further forward may lead to us scoring more goals than last season without conceding more. It will be interesting to see if the teams I have mentioned change to a more conservative approach. After their first game last season Norwich were praised for their attacking play at Liverpool but still got thumped 1-4. They didn't change their style, continued to leak goals, and finished well adrift at the bottom of the division. I suspect at least two and possibly three of the four teams I mentioned above will be relegated.

I'll see what happens with Leeds then, also Newcastle nearly won the league by trying to outscore opponents.

It looks like Fulham and West Brom will struggle but I can imagine Leeds staying up. I think the other relegated team will be someone like Southampton, or hopefully Brighton. Both seem to play entertaining football but seem to lack any kind of grit. I can't see either grinding games out, when we will probably chisel away with a few one-nils.

Yes Brighton getting relegated would be funny for a few days, then the rivalry has gone, to be replaced by Norwich? I know who'd I rather have.

As George Graham said when manager at Arsenal “if you don’t concede you don’t loose” Problem with that theory is, if you concede in the first 5 minutes, you are then in trouble, plan A has gone out the window, and you need to revert to plan B, and fast. Football has changed so much, would Graham survive in the modern era? I don't think so,

Yes, Guardiola and Klopp have brought a new level to how to play attacking football and they should be applauded for doing so.

I meant in regards to winning titles, of course Graham could survive, he was a good manager, but could he take on City and Liverpool with Arsenal, playing the football he did? No I don't think he could.
