How are we so behind every other club in the prem. Villa on the verge of singing Watkins for 28 mil and rising to 33, yes its far too much for him but how have they got this money to spend and we dont. We have been in desperate need for a striker for years.

Easy. Aston Villa is owned by an Egyptian billionaire, who obviously is prepared to spend money. Whilst our wealthy owner(s) want out, and don't want to spend too much money. Newcastle, whilst not as wealthy as Aston Villa, still has some glamour about it. If you had the choice of Newcastle or Palace, I suspect most would choose Newcastle (unless the player wanted remain down south). We may well have splashed most of our money on our primary target Eze.

Maybe if Benteke and Sørloth was shipped out, there might be some more new signings.

That's 60m spent on unproven talent. 2 out of the 3 haven't done the job hence why they're putting all eggs in one basket by overpaying on Watkins. We'll see how that goes. As normal we've not been super active but I'm confident Eze and Ferguson will be good additions. This also is not a 'normal' window so if we do add Batshuayi before the opening game then it's a good start IMO with the following weeks to add more depth, youthful talent I.e Downes, Osayo-Samuel, Bella-Kotchapp. If we further added those 3 plus one more loan then I'd be very happy.

It looks increasingly likely that we will start the new season with the same players we ended the last season with, although Reidewald may well actually be in the starting line-up. Eze appears unlikely to be fit. Ferguson definitely not, and who knows about Gallagher? I know there is still time yet, but I have a horrible feeling that when the transfer window closes we will still lack of a fit and capable striker.

How are we behind other teams? We've signed an exciting youngster in Eze for £16m and the type of player we've been crying out for. We've signed an exciting youngster who will potentially be or new right back on a tribunal based transfer. We are about to sign Batshuayi on loan. We're still in for a couple of players We've held on to all of our first team players Yet you're wetting your knickers because Villa are paying hugely over the odds for Watkins, Newcastle have signed an 28 year old with a dodgy knee for £20m and Villa have signed Wesley and Sammata who scored 6 goals between them for a combined fee of £32m. The club has a limited amount of money and we've spent it pretty wisely to date.

If you took time to look at our potential squad, we have far better players than either Villa or Newcastle. I'm not losing sleep over what Villa are doing

Benteke was being offered out for £10m transfer a few weeks ago by Chelsea but with a year left and his wages, nobody was willing to look at it. I think for Palace this works out well in that if Benteke's contract ends next summer and Bats does well, we buy him for a set amount and basically use Benteke's wages on him instead. Now we have a smaller loan fee and his wages to loan him until then.

Unearthing a genuinely good striker at Prem level is almost guess work today unless they're already proven. Even then, just look at Benteke. Michy (should he come on loan) is still expensive as an earner but a lower risk option than going for Watkins. Plus I don't think we have the readies. I still think this is a 'stay in the league' year. Villa are not a good team. They remind me of Fulham when their new owner first came in, threw cash at the team and they were relegated. I reckon Smith will be out by Christmas.
I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry. |
