Probably best that it happened now rather than in years time when such abhorrent views have become more ingrained. It might give him pause for thought about the consequences of his unfortunate behaviour.

The only unfortunate thing in all this is that he is probably too young to be suitably punished. Maybe 12 months in YOI might give him time to reflect

This boy needs some mentoring not a criminal record. Also, this is an example of selective enforcement. Many physical threats are made online and nothing happens. The fact that a big play is made of this shows exactly where the real power lies.

I agree, it should be handled sensitively.

Maybe 12 months in YOI might give him time to reflect I have little time for racists, but I'm a realist. Kids can do exceptionally stupid attention seeking s*** and he's probably parroting the kind of atmosphere we has found himself around. It's pitiful but also a good opportunity to have this short sharp shock to learn from. Wanting to lock up a 12 year old doesn't sit well with me. There are better ways of letting someone know that if this is the standard of their conduct they're not going to go far in life. The kid needs to understand that, as does his family. We should direct our attention to the sweeping, catch-all racist comments we sometimes see and hear from 'grown ups'. Children get their idea of what's right and wrong from adults and depending on who's the authority figure at home, that can lead to warped outlooks that don't serve children or society well. This is just typical because it has happened to a celeb as such the police go after them any other normal person they have no interest what so ever. I know this because a family member went through same sort of thing but over longer period of time and much worse was said police was not interested. But Zaha and Wright o they was quick to help them out wasn't they.

A potential lifetime ban from Villa Park (and now the FA are involved) all grounds in the country is a sobering thought more so given the fact he is 12.
They say hard work never hurt anyone ... but why take a chance? |

But Zaha and Wright o they was quick to help them out wasn't they. You're right, but anything high profile attracts attention so it's inevitable. The boy would benefit from meeting Wilf. The reality of facing the person he racially abused may well lead to him re-evaluating his behavior. Bring Dad along too. I expect others are as responsible for this kids outlook as he is. And if they're not, the embarrassment of the whole situation will lead to him adjusting his behavior in a positive way anyway. An emphasis should be on moving beyond it and learning from it though rather than 'cancel culture' or life long demonisation. Kids used to be able to make mistakes, even horrendous ones, without it being remembered or impactful upon their lives for an eternity. I appreciate that what he did was s***ty, incredibly racist and unacceptable and requires acknowledgement as such, but his age should be factored in to how this situation is dealt with. I have 13 year old and 10 year old sons, and at 12 years of age you do not spontaneously do something like this unless you've been duped. I think that the content of the messages should be made public, that both parents should be held responsible and made to apologise in public. We need to see the parents faces on TV and have them say what they have got to say. That will be more effective than sending the kid to borstal. Locking his parents up for a while could also be effective. Give the family a life ban from going to any football matches as well.
The user, jackdolan_avfc, also sent Zaha a picture of the Ku Klux Klan and another racist image. Source: Metro.co.uk Edited by Baires Eagle (12 Jul 2020 8.02pm) Edited by Baires Eagle (12 Jul 2020 8.09pm)
