Having watched all our forwards play over the last few months , i believe our best forward line is Wilf Zaha. Jordan Ayew. Andros Townsend Pace, skill, energy, high press ....and remember when Ayew plays down the middle he wins more than his fair share of headers Benteke and even Tosun (who is more mobile than Benteke) Just can’t press well enough ... Ayew was great business....who would have thought he would become our best striker !

I would want to see more of Tosun before passing judgment. I agree that Ayew has been great for us (still our top scorer despite his glaring misses yesterday).

A front three of Zaha,Townsend and Ayew are unlikely to score enough goals over the course of a season.

Have completely agreed with this all season. We played some nice football when we had Zaha - Batshuayi - Townsend; Ayew is also a forward who likes the ball at his feet, and offers even more in terms of pressing and effort (though less in finishing). Benteke infuriates me not only because he's crap when he's in the team, but because he's taking the place of someone who could do better. Benteke is holding us back.

Benteke played well yesterday. Won plenty of headers and looked decent with the ball at his feet. Obviously his finishing is depressingly bad and Newcastle were poor, but it was a good performance. I'm not a coach, so it's hard to judge how the front three should look against Brighton. Based on the way Brighton play, I would start with Tosun. The change is justified based on Benteke's miss yesterday and the way Tosun has pressed in the games he's played. Brighton's defenders are also more likely to dominate the aerial ball. Obviously Jordan and Wilf on the wings, especially given the latter's goal record against them.
I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry. |
