Just noticed this apologies if already posted elsewhere but Brian Sparrow passed away on Dec 6. I only have vague memories of him playing for Palace but hopefully others may be able to contribute more useful information. RIP

I was so saddened to hear the news. I recall "Spadge" at our club playing alongside George Wood,Cannon,Nicholas,Locke,Barber,Ketteridge,Droy etc etc. I met "Spadge" numerous times, through his involvement in non-league football and also socially and he was always a happy, chirpy chappie. As well as his involvement with Croydon Athletic and other clubs, he was at one time manager of Lingfield and was resident in the area. Our paths haven't crossed for a long time but I have pleasant memories of him. RIP "Spadge".

Heart attack, I do wonder why heart checks are not made more of an importance with us humans, so many people bury their heads in the sand when it comes to health ..and then it's all too late, not suggesting for one moment that Brian did this but to lose a life this way always seems such a waste, I remember him playing not just for us but also for Millwall under George Graham, + it hits home especially as he was just 3 months older then me.

very solid competent left back who helped us through our mid-eighties struggles v the likes of shrewsbury and Barnsley. Don't know what age he was but it must have been relatively young, may be under 60. RIP

Indeed. Very very unlucky then considering he would have been under care, possibly a clot or something similar.
