I want to pay tribute to an Aussie (Kiwi ex-pat) icon - John Clark For more than 25 years, John Clark and his mate, Brian Dawe, have done a 3 minute satire piece on the TV here. It has been an ongoing piss-take of the politicians, media hacks, lobbyists, crooked bankers, and various other shysters that deserved his scrutiny and ridicule. Sharp woul be an understatement. The format didnt vary much - John Clark (the interviewee) always played it as himself - whether he be the Prime Minister of the day, or some shady spin doctor or financial guru. Brian Dawes (the interviewer) was his perfect foil - the straightest of straight men. Anyway (like many people here) I didn't realise how much John Clark had impacted upon me until he died, unexpectedly, earlier this week. Here's a few examples of why I think John Clark deserves wider recognition at this time. I hope you enjoy them.

Very good and very much in the vein of The Long Johns - Bird and Fortune. I wonder who nicked the idea off whom?

The Long Johns did a great skit which absolutely nailed the investment bankers who caused the GFC. I just watched again on YouTube. When I first saw It, I didn't realise that it had been done about 6 months before the GFC hit. Very clever. Not sure who did the satire-interview format first. Clark and Dawe started doing it on Channel 9 around 1990.
