Man is the most insane species. He worships an invisible God and destroys a visible Nature. Unaware that this Nature he’s destroying is this God he’s worshipping.

An end to this barbarity will come all the sooner if people boycott Spanish produce and holiday resorts.

Is this a five minute argument, or the full half hour? [Link]

I actually enjoy the bullfighting and take my family along. Its entertaining and quite exciting, We watched a Matador get absolutly mullered by a Bull so its not all one way.

I would happily pay to watch if I knew that the Matador or those horsemen who tire the poor Bull out and stick spears in to them got killed instead of the poor knackered Bull!

Hemingway's Death in the Afternoon is a great read on the subject.

By all accounts, the bulls are treated really well, up until they fight anyway!

Absolutely love Spain and the Spanish but fvck me is bullfighting retarded or what? Went to one in Tudela during fiesta and this was just the young machismos teasing young bulls over and over and then running like scared chickens to safety once the young 'un had had enough. Immature tw@ts.

I'd say bullfighting is a total embarrassment to Spain. It's like something from the middle ages. It is the licensed torture of animals and the fact that they are treated well before hand does not alter that.

We don't cover ourselves with glory for foxhunting but at least that is/was very much a minority activity.

It's not even a fair contest!

The bull has his horns filed down for safety of the toreadors and is slowly mutilated by the picadors long before the matador gets in the ring to strut his stuff.

The Bull will die (if not today, tomorrow)... but the Matador will live to fight another day unless a bizarre happening occurs.

And in answer to an earlier query... No it is not worse than Halal butchery.... but just as cruel, callous and unnecessary.

This is not the Dark Ages.

Treat all animals with respect.

A little worse, if the bull isn't eaten, and sport isn't protected under religious freedoms. That said the world could live without either, and no one would be the worse off.

It seems a bit weird in this day and age that killing animals for pleasure is seen as acceptable.

Isn't fox hunting legal again?

Cruelty, in all forms, demeans us, irrespective of our excuses. But there is a special abhorrence for those who inflict cruelty for sport, on 'lesser' species and then try to vindicate it as acceptable.

Halal and Kosher aren't in any way necessities of the Jewish and Muslim faith.
