Anybody had problems waiting for their dbs certificate to come back from the wonderful met police? I've been waiting over 3 month's now and it's been stuck on stage 4 for the majority of that time. My wife is waiting to register as a child minder and she can't until this comes back. Really is shocking in this day and age that there is not a better system in place. People are losing out on money, can't start their own business or are unable to start a job because they are waiting for the certificate.

I listened to a magazine programme about this a few months ago. Met are the worst but it's not all their fault. Too many employers go for unnecessary detailed screening. Apparently if you apply to the PSNI they are the quickest and turn it around in less than a week.

Mine came back quickly last time I updated it. Except they put my place of birth as Croyden. This is after all the warnings about me getting my own information accurate the dumb b******s make their own typo. EDIT: Mine wouldn't have been Met Police though. So frankly my comments are irrelevant as usual. Edited by Part Time James (23 Aug 2016 4.49pm)

Only Jimmy Savile could get a response to a DBS check faster

Can help you here through direct knowledge via schools' checks upon staff and external coaches...and we normally fall into priority category. Like many other Govt.services, there have been front line staff cutbacks through the roof including DBS checking therefore really limited human resources to deal with increasing number of checks. That seems to also coincide with how our country's essential services are supposedly progressing in terms of the euphemistically titled 'efficiency savings'.

Disclosure Scotland is quickest unless you are using the Bulk system.

Well I actually bet you Jimmy Savile would've easily been able to obtain an enhanced DBS. Problem with a DBS is that it looks at outstanding and previous criminal charges. A paedophile that's been getting away with it would pass their DBS. It also can't dig up a person's future intentions or inclinations. Makes a mockery of the whole thing really. By the way, this isn't me outing myself as a paedo. I think it's been established that I am more interested in MILFs than young'ns.

MILF has now been reclaimed by the paedos as Minor I'd Like... well you know the rest. Good luck with the DBS renewal...Probably best to start the Soap Handling for beginners course now.

I was a bit surprised that you need to have DBS, if you already have high security clearance. Then I remembered someone, somewhere has to pay. The reality is that if you've done anything that has got you flagged for DBS you'll not get security clearance. Its much harder to molest army cadets now they've shut Deepcut.

It doesn't really cover anything that a criminal record check wouldn't. This bit is quite funny "All employers must treat DBS check applicants who have a criminal record fairly and should not discriminate because of a conviction or other information revealed." Although it does include, apparently, any contact the police have had with someone, not just what you've been convicted of. Which sounds remarkably illegal and surely in line for a ECHR ruling and massive payouts. No worries though, only 2700 people in 2006 were misidentified as criminals by the check.
