An absolute icon in ice hockey, he has been in poor health for a while but true to his character he just kept on fighting.
It's well worth watching his movie to get an idea of what the man was all about.

Gordie Howe is an absolute icon of the NHL who had an incredible 34 year career from 1946 to 1980. In that time, he scored 801 goals and 1,049 assists in a record 1,767 regular season games. He also lifted the Stanley Cup four times among many other personal achievements.

Earning the nickname 'Mr Hockey', he was an inspiration to generations of players and fans everywhere. He will be very much missed, but never, ever forgotten.
