Very sad, R.I.P Mr Nice and hopefully one day your wish of decriminalization comes true, hopefully starting with the UNGASS meeting later this month.

I didn't know who this geezer was so I googled him..... It seems smuggling cannabis into the country getting caught ad convicted earns you respect and you become a bit of a cult hero or loveable rogue. Become PM and invest in a perfectly legal and tax efficient offshore unit trust and you are a scumbag. Strange world we live in these days!

In particular Shipman but my friend says his kills were a bit boring so I often tell people I prefer Bundy just to save face.

Absolutely. How does one explain to their children how this guy came to be a cult hero?

I got dragged along to see one of his shows. I should have heeded the warning bells when I saw all the beardy-weirdy types queuing outside. It was so brain-buggeringly boring that I was out and in the pub after half an hour.

The bloke was a criminal. Like Buster Edwards and others he writes a book, has a film made about him that paints him in a sympathetic light and a whole load of gullible idiots make him into some kind of hero. People will never stop being dumb will they.

Also perfectly legal tax efficient offshore unit trust, isn't an accurate statement. Questionably legal is better suited. They'd be illegal if the operated in the UK, and see you go to prison for tax evasion and probably for money laundering offences. They largely remain legal for their users, because they can hide intent, amounts and names from public record and HMRC.

Indeed, you can make money with the IRA & American Mob but it's ok because you like to have a spliff Pretty much, and that's how he kind of got the nickname 'Mr Nice', given his outlook and not being a gangster. Its one of those things, I guess, due to the peculiarities of UK law, smoking a joint probably means some rather nasty people are earning money, rather than legitimate businesses etc. The war on drugs has increasingly put recreational drug money into the pockets of dangerous anti-social criminal organisations over the decades and has seen busts of largely benign organisations replaced by hardened criminal gangs and even terrorist groups. But its important to remember that initially drug smuggling outside of the heroin trade, was largely run by small like minded groups of people, who only really became involved with the Mob etc when they were busted and put in prison with them. Personally, it was probably better for society in the US, when the largest trafficking organisation was 'The Brotherhood of Eternal Love' rather than assorted Cartels.

Bundy is a lazy mans serial killer, all charisma and style, no substance, no class. Like Henry Lee Lucas, its lacks so much panache and artistry, that you can actually make movies about them that people want to see. No one is going to want to watch a movie about the life of Albert Fish or Peter Kurten and feel sympathy, or in fact anything other than a desire for a bleach shower and lynching. I think you can only truly judge such people on the basis of how alienating you find them and their motives, with the best arguably being those who utterly make no sense at all to you. Charles Ng and Leonard Lake always struck me as unusually interesting.
