The UN have decided to increase the Argies territorial waters from 200 to 350 miles, which means the Falklands (and the oilfields near it) will fall under their jurisdiction...Will this lead to another war with us kicking their latino butts again ?
Touch my coffee and I will slap you so hard even Google won't be able to find you. |

I very much doubt it.

We just managed it 35 years ago. No way could we now. History has proved that an aircraft carrier - without aircraft = a big sitting duck! Edited by rob1969 (30 Mar 2016 9.59am)

'Downing Street' dismissed the move as "not legally binding," insisting the 'UN commission' does not have jurisdiction over national sovereignty.

Carriers need a flotilla of screening vessels around them which they havent got and which the Treasury dont want to pay for.

I really cannot envisage another 1982 'Falklands War'. In terms of our naval capacities, as I understand it the 2 'Aircraft Carriers' currently under construction will carry 'F35' fighters from 2020.

We have Trident. They don't. Effectively if the Falklands war was repreated, it'd be more akin to some people in rowing boats and canoes fighting people in pedellos and on lilos, with sticks and stones, whilst occasionally someone throws paper airplanes. I doubt either side could reasonably mount a similar scale campaign. Argentine military spending dropped right off after the fall of their Junta.

We can't legally use it against a non-nuclear threat. It'd be illegal under UK and International law. Not to mention it would increase property prices in Buenos Aires. They'd need to at the very least have WMD and be in a position to use them, so it'll probably require a Labour government to do that

Simply not true about British military capability in the Falklands: Any Argentine invasion would be crushed.
