Am I correct that cautions are wiped off your record after 6 years . ?Minor football related one way back in the late 90,s. Query is related to a recent job application with a bank.

Nothing is ever wiped from the records. Whether or not they're revealed to a 3rd party enquiry after x number of years I don't know.

Convictions are never completely wiped but, in terms of the majority of job applications, you do not have to disclose them once they are 'spent'. The time period for this varies but, for a caution, 6 years is the most common. Unless you were applying to join a law enforcement agency, working with children and a few other very specific categories (full list in the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act), you should be fine.

Under the Rehabilation of Offenders Act, cautions are spent immediately. It'll be removed from your records when/if you reach the grand old age of 100. As above, there are exceptions when this needs to be disclosed, even though spent.
