Looking for some advice off any PT's/training PT's out there please. In a moment of madness/stupidity, I've signed up to play at Loftus Road as part of Football Aid, fortunately for only 45 minutes! Now I'm not in the worst of conditions, equally, I'm not in the best either (although fit enough to escape a certain Mr Funt I'd imagine). I've only left myself 6 weeks to get "match fit", well, "half match fit". I currently play 6 aside once a week, that's it. I'm OK over long distance - on 2 occasions in recent years I've trained for a 10 mile run in about a month, managing to do both in 10-minute miles. But really struggling with any type of fitness training at pace. Went out this evening to give this a go - [Link] - got through the first set and nearly chucked. Should I crack on with the attached or would it be better to focus on general fitness first (long runs)? Or even try some of the wifes core/strength fitness DVD's?

The attached looks perfect, but make sure your diet is in order to aid recovery between sessions. Regards, A fat c***.

If you're looking for short bursts of pace I would say download a HIIT timer on your phone like this one [Link] and then every day set yourself 5 exercises and do 20 seconds of exercise, 10 seconds rest and repeat the 5 exercises 4 times. So for example: Jumping jacks x 4 Squat jumps x 4 Burpees x 4 Press ups x 4 It'll kill you the first few times but after a week you'll be able to get through it and you'll be able to add a few more exercises in etc. You can change up the exercises if you want and you don;t have to leave the house to do it. Also try and cut out sugar and alcohol. Then before kick off have a large amount of speed.

Thanks chaps, I'll continue down the current route of HIT sessions. I'll be sure to eat healthy. Starting tomorrow, naturally!

The only way to get fit for football is to play football. Save money on a Personal trainer and play a few friendlily kick around before hand and go for a few jogs. Consult your doctor before doing any training if you are very unfit or over 45(which I assume you are not)

Otherwise, as its loftus road, make sure the name Mutch is on the back of your shirt and you'll only get five or ten minutes.
