When we were at school, Smokey changed the lyrics to the chorus of the Pet Shop Boys seminal hit 'Rent' to the following: 'look at my arse, look at my ring, it's always up for rent, I love you 'cause you are bent'. Every time I hear this track, nearly thirty years after Smokey's homophobic arrangement of Mr Lowe and Tennants piece, the above lyrics pop in my head. I also hear, every time I hear Robbie Williams 'Let me Entertain you', the words 'let me kill and rape you' come into my mind. I know I am not alone in re-arranging lyrics. Are there other tracks where you have rewritten the lyrics of the original?
"That was fun and to round off the day, I am off to steal a charity collection box and then desecrate a place of worship.” - Smokey, The Selhurst Arms, 26/02/02 |

Being a child of the 1970s much of my listening of music was on AM radio. Also being a bit deaf I often picked up the wrong lyrics my worst being Killer queen gun fire and cheddar cheese. By Queen as for the rude words used at school my mate Mark used to sing Blood stains round your ring to Boney Ms classic Brown Girl in the ring

small faces - lazy sunday I always change the lyric " I`ve got no mind to worry " to " I`ve got no gin and tonic " . at a boozy afternoon as a lad sitting on the balcony of our apartment in Ibiza 1980 the small faces blasting out, my mate sang that while thrusting his empty g and t glass in the air motioning to the nearest to the bar to fill it up , I suppose you had to be there !
