Smartphone/Tablet Shenanigans

I spent all day yesterday trying to set up a new smart phone and tablet!

Got a good deal (I thought!) from Virgin.......... £5 a month, free LG smartphone, Alcatel Tablet - 250 mins talk time per mth, unlimited texts........ not bad?

I've had a Nokia phone for years, it's big it's old fashioned but I liked it... I could phone/txt anyone without causing the old grey matter or my decrepit hands (due to illness) too much grief...........

What a firkin palarver...... I started the process about 10am after the courier dropped it off and I gave up near the end about 10pm. During the day I made about 10 phantom calls to my contacts and sent messages like "pj8&^f?@" and according to the Mrs my language was ripe and my face was a mixture of anger and despair!

Missed the Rugby, 2 live Sky games of Prem footy and hardly ate anything. Ended up with a bad back bending over my footrest where I had laid out the equipment, unreadable instructions, cables, 3 pairs of glasses, a torch and cyanide pills (if it got too much).

No wonder all the kids of today have got their faces permanently on their smartphone screens - probably still trying to work out how to use it properly!

Why does the instruction booklet have to be so small and the SIM card so tiny and fiddly and have 4 ways it can fit into the slot? - and why did I always only get it right at the 4th attempt?

Kin'ell that'll be my first and last smartphone!

I don't believe it!

All this smart phonery will be the death of us as a species.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

You're asking me what it's all about, and I can't tell you because I don't know what's going on myself.

That takes me back to about 1960... the phone box by the shops at Wrythe Green, Carshalton - queuing up to make a call........
