First time to London

Boston's most fervent Palace fan (no big feat unfortunately) is visiting London for the first time this late August for my friend's wedding. Turning it into a full 10 night's stay though. Flight booked, waiting on a possible hotel deal or possible airbnb. So I need to get into Selhurst obviously and I'll be around consecutive weekends so should get a chance. Is the international supporter package that allows me to buy tickets to one match the way to go? Any other advice and support welcomed as well. I plan to try to avoid tourist activities as much as possible. Would rather like to spend a lot of the time as a jobless Londoner with an alcohol problem might... though the wife may have a say in that. She wants to take the Eurostar to Paris for a day or two but I'd rather take that time to get out of the city to the south coast or something but we'll see. Thanks for any advice, feeling trepidation as I don't want to be an awful tourist.

Sky Garden is great for a fantastic view of the city as very high up but you will need to book it a few weeks in advance and take your passport. It's free too.

There's usually a mod weekend throughout the bank holiday weekend at the end of August...http://www.newuntouchables.com/home/?portfolio=brighton-weekender If you want to avoid the typical London tourist type thing, I would do the following - Go to Franks Cafe - a bar situated on top of a multi storey car park in Peckham, go late evening into the night, the view is amazing [Link] Watch a show at Brick Lane Music Hall - [Link] There are loads of good bars/shops/markets in and around the Brick Lane/Shoreditch area, although if tall, thin, bearded men are not your thing, I would avoid this area completely. Walk a long the 02 - [Link] I haven't done this, but it looks like fun! If you can, try and get out of the city and go to some country pubs, any of these would be ideal [Link]

Do a Jack the Ripper Tour which is about £10 from Tower Hill (opposite the Tower Of London) great way to see the city at night ...I'd suggest going with "London Walks" -> [Link] They also do a pub crawl one as well Edited by Lyons550 (31 Jan 2016 10.06am)

If you want drinks at altitude, Sushi Samba (Heron Tower on Bishopsgate) isn't quite so expensive and it's a few floors higher up (and has better views IMO). Go early (but make sure you're there at twilight to see the view at its best) to avoid the worst of the overpaid City Graduates' pretentiousness. Edited by Mr_Gristle (31 Jan 2016 12.54pm)

If you want to do History and are mobile, try and take in Dover Castle (much better than the Tower of London), Lullingstone Roman Villa near Dartford (car essesntial) and Eltham Palace - only if the house is open. Medieval, Romans and Art Deco all covered right there. A trip to Lullingstone has the added bonus of being in good village pub territory.
