That defence has served many a disgraced politician... the latest exponent was Lord Janner before he croaked it (or so the papers said - no one checked the coffin).

The texts the 17 year old sent were way worse than what he said, albeit that does not defend him.

I often find myself inadvertently defending a public figure on here. Whether that be someone in a position of power or simply one who should be a role model, 99% of the time the reaction is a matter of PR rather than having any relevance to their ability to do their job. This is nearer to the other 1% but still just a case misfortune/carelessness in being caught.

Now there are far more serious allegations against him it's a different matter although in this case his form would suggest it's more than just a stitch-up. That said I'd love it to be Corbyn's dirty tricks.
