I'm coming back from Bath Sunday morning. Guessing there's no time saving in getting a train part way up the M4 as trains will be going the same way but quicker and will all still go to Paddington.

Just don't fancy 3 hours on trains and Tubes. Any other options?

Amazing idea but there are no flights to London from Bristol! Gatwick would've been perfect.

Do this trip every home game, a few Stellas, sit and relax and watch the world go by.

Good luck.

Brighton Main Line severed at Purley until 04:00 on 4th January.

I am not sure but believe there are options to be explored.

There are services from Wales - possibly calling at Bristol or Bath along the South Coast to Brighton.

A change at Barnham? could get you up the arun valley Line to Victoria.

Reading could present opportunities - into Waterloo or Redhill (then 405 bus to Croydon - single oyster fare).

A semi New Year Day might not be best for exploring. try looking up Train operating Company timetables for your future.

I will stop before I bore everyone.

Thanks all.

Looks like train-Tube-Tube-train is still the best option although not quick at 3+ hours. Unsuprisingly a third of that involves London transport which is pathetic.

Reading looked like a shout but still only goes to Paddington which is sh1te as still means 2 tubes to Victoria as it would appear the Circle Line is fcuked, or London Bridge.

Because of the engineering works at Purley over Christmas it's going to take me the best part of 3 hours from Worthing rather than the usual roughly 90 minutes from door to door.In comparison 3 hours from Bristol doesn't seem too bad a deal.

You can get one tube from Paddington to Victoria on the Circle line.

A longish drive to either Salisbury or Andover would get you on to the Exeter to Waterloo line via Clapham jct. No idea about works on this route over the weekend, but it's closer than Paddington to Selhurst....

Good option as I can just change at Clapham for Norwood Junction although don't want to send the mrs on too much of a detour from the M4.

Had to downgrade to a Morris Traveller Jim and there's woodworm in the back panels - so it's off the road mate.
