[Major Spoilers] What do we think? As a Star Wars nut I was quite happy with it, it was basically a remake of episode 4 but it was good. Thought John Boyega was excellent, and was a funny Han type to have the mantel passed to! As for his charecter it's a bit strange, all the promotion for the film show him with saber and suggest he is a Jedi trainee but it seems like he isn't even majorly force sensitive, the only suggestion was when Kylo Renn looked at him after the slaughter and said there was an awakening later. Maybe he will pick up the mantel in VIII. Daisy was a cool charecter. She seemed clunky in her delivery and a bit awkward at first but picked up as the film wore on. Seemed like overnight she became a sick head Jedi and managed to smash a trained Dark Jedi. But promising for the series over all. The oldies all did their bit and I'm glad it was very much a mantel passing film, Luke looked cool and it's sad to see Han go but we always knew it's what Harrison ford wanted. Thought they should have done something like given Finn his jacket or DL - 44 blaster and had a bit of continuity. Thought BB-8 was really quite funny and the thumbs up scene with Finn was a good laugh. C3-PO was annoying as was the R2 plot device where he wakes up from sleeping with the plans to find Luke. Kylo/Ben was a great baddie, although he went from Being hugely powerful to being schooled by Rey. It will be interesting to see what happens with him. Did Han turn on the saber to stop him from having to kill his dad or not? Supreme leader Snooke looked crap. Cgi looked bad on that. Should have gone for makeup and prosthetics it's always better. He looked like a monster out of the hobbit. Poe Dameron had the potential to be a far cooler charecter than he was. He started great with sharp lines and the chemistry between him and Finn was great as a pupil/teacher vibe. But then we had nothing from him until a very forgettable couple of Space fighting scenes. Including the last one which had nothing on any flying scenes from any movie 1-6. The other villains were very forgettable and the only one who seemed interesting was the nameless one Finn fought with a saber, that should have been Phasma and given her outfit some actual use and made her like a new boba Still bugged about the Finn force sensitive issue!

Sorry, can't agree with that. I thought the film was poor. For the money and effort put into it they come up with a plot line that is practically identical to Episode IV : A New Hope. And that is probably the biggest disappointment. I thought John Boyega's acting was truly awful, and really hoped his character would be killed off at the end. Another Hayden Christensen in the making. Not all bad, though :- I read a review from the New York Times last night, and the critic had it spot on. Despite it's flaws (ie. Jar Jar Binks, Hayden Christensen etc), The Force Awkens makes you appreciate the prequels alot more. The fact that it's Star Wars, the devoted fans will love it anyway.

Christopher Lee would have been around 80 when he made his appearances in the prequels. Obviously, it wouldn't have been major parts in the film series but little cameos. I suppose it all depends on the actors opinion, some love to appear in films later in life, whilst others retire from it completely.

Disagree about John Boyega, thought he did very well and it was Daisy that looks like the weak link. Thought they didn't develop any of the characters enough. Yeah it was a re skin of episode 4 that I agree with but I think it's more like a franchise reboot than a sequel, hopefully will diverge far more with the next film. Main gripe is with the forgettable flying scenes and the sudden change of Rey from a scrap collector to a match for a trained force sensitive rogue Jedi.

Also wedge the actor doesn't want much to do with Star Wars. Still thought they could have mentioned him. As for Lando perhaps episode 8? After all that's episode 5 that he was introduced in first time round

As my family left the cinema we all said when will the dark side learn not to build large spherical bases with super weapons and trenches. As with the prequels the audience is probably meant to be a lot younger than me and so I leave you with my 7 year old thoughts, which was "I really liked that!"
"Everything is air-droppable at least once." "When the going gets tough, the tough call for close air support." |

I thought it was really good actually. Obviously the biggest flaw was the huge plot similarities with Episode IV. Don't think there's much potential for repeat in the following instalments now Han's dead and hopefully as a whole the trilogy will work really well. I disagree with previous posters about John Boyega (Finn). I thought he acted really well. His fear at the start was convincing and part of the reasons why I thought the first third was the best written and directed part of the film. Daisy Ridley (Rey) was a touch unconvincing but really grew into the role. The old characters came in pretty well but some of the new ones were forgettable. The alien in the green island, Maz Kanata (had to look it up) didn't seem all that special to me so I hope she's ditched. Supreme Leader Snoke and the ginge General weren't at all threatening or convincing. Who is Snoke? He'll probably get given some backstory as being Palpatine's former lover or something to make his power seem credible. Kylo Ren was interesting but some critics are bigging him up as being the best Star Wars villain ever which is nonsense. He was good. I liked the concept of him being a Vader fanboy, that's a clever idea actually. But overall it was great, the actors played really well off each other, the nostalgia was nice and the action good. I honestly don't like JJ Abrams much. His Star Trek films are frankly a bit average and I'm glad he's not directing the next one (for now!). He has set up the new mythology of this trilogy really well though and I'm looking forward to the new films!
I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry. |

6.5 out of 10 for me...thats two disappointments in Spectre and now The Force Awakens...tried to fit in too much in too short a space...which left the plot feeling clunky and 'forced' (see what I did there). Finng grew on me by the end and BB8 was great...was there much point in having Lea and Luke in it? The best thing was that it felt like Episode iV rather than being too CGI heavy and as such I hope they retain that balance for the next two.
