14 years of being detained without trial, and then just suddenly released, is a disgrace to the idea of what the US and UK are supposed to stand for.

Pleased for his British kids. Their lives will be enriched. Not quite sure what he actually did to deserve to be incarcerated for 13 years and it sounds like the yanks don't know either.

Let's hope that he is/was indeed the victim of a miscarriage of justice and that he has peaceable aims upon his return to the UK.

Even if he is actually guilty, imprisoning him for 14 years without a trial, is a miscarriage of justice.

Even if he is actually guilty, imprisoning him for 14 years without a trial, is a miscarriage of justice. Justice or the law? Arguably justice was served because the law couldn't deal with it. Not at all, justice to be fair and impartial, Detaining someone without trial, even if you know they are guilty, is denying that person one of the most fundamental precepts of our law, the right to face your accused and a trial before a jury of your peers along with the concept of innocent until proven guilty. Bear in mind that neither country at the time could do this to their own citizens, even if their crimes were on a par, and the pursuit of this as 'essential to security' has effectively paved the way for similar illegalities, such as rendition (kidknapping foreign nationals without legal demonstration of necessity or crime) and 'Intensive Interrogation techniques' effectively torturing people who are 'suspected', but without any need to demonstrate the reasonableness of that suspicion. Essentially, this has done far more damage to the UK and US, than Al-Queda could have ever achieved.
