This accusation was most notably thrown at Corbyn last week and and the defence from the left is usually that tolerance etc are actually British traits to be proud of.

Today I read something about the Black Power salute at the Mexico Olympics suggesting that the white Australian silver medalist suffered, as do people to this day in both countries as a result of 'racism imposed by British rule'.

Is that fair or are there quite a few self loathing Brits in that same way that there's trust fund guilt?

I find this awful Great Britain a bit paradoxical but wonder if it's just been bad since Cameron?

It isn't that egalitarians - and essentially that's what we are dealing with here....it isn't that they are 'anti-British' as such.

It's that they aren't pro-British. The whole point of being an egalitarian is that your lot are no more deserving than the other lot.....Indeed they refuse to have a 'lot' outside of humanity.

They are completely unsuitable for leading an actual country in a world where sharp elbows rule......We would be toothless lambs to the slaughter.

The Aussie who was on the podium with those guys wore an Olympic Project for Human Rights badge and also opted not to sing his national anthem and faced a backlash from the Australian Olympic Committee.

The quote you highlight was from some idiot on Facebook and I don't get it either. It just struck me as anti-British to blame us for the situation in 2 countries which have been independent for centuries.

By that logic Stirling they shouldn't support a football team. Imagine causing misery to another group of people by taunting them over their team's inadequacies.

I don't think egalitarians carry their logic over into games to be fair to them.

I view egalitarianism as very much a hypocritical ideology. Most of its advocates believe its tenets should be pushed onto the collective rather than demonstrating that they have lived by them themselves.

I don't think you can actually be British and accused, reasonably, of being anti-British, its cheap shots from the self righteous, because there is no real definition of what it is to be British.

There is a worrying tide in the UK that there is a right kind of patriotism, and that anything that questions that 'truth of Britishness' is anti-British. That's the mentality of the far right, the idea that there is a true notion of identity, which is theirs, and everything else deviates from that 'inherent truth'.

But to actually call the leader of an opposition party 'Anti-British' is absurdly stupid, and shows a degree of ignorance and arrogance on a par with calling Tory's fascists or Nazis.

Its what people do when they don't have an argument to make (to paraphrase Thatcher), they attack the person.

Or they have a different idea of what British is and means, than other people do. If we look back in the dark annuals of history, who was more British, William Wilberforce, who effectively made a pariah of himself against the slave trade, or the status quo who defended it. Ultimately, I would say that the true patriot is as much the man who holds his country to task and pushes towards a higher moral ground for his people and in doing so 'creates' a monument in history for their people (and in doing so, brings other nations along).

What made Britain great wasn't the wars or conquests, but the people who's achievements make a nation better than it was, and in doing so, brings changes that other nations follow. Brunell was a great engineer, not because he was British or he built x or y, but that engineers in other countries were inspired by him.

It's a lot easier for us thickos to join in with the debate when Corbyn is accused of being a scruffy bearded lefty weirdo.

All this highbrow mumbo jumbo is for sydtheeagle and jamiemartin.
