Gutted. Best voice ever.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Pompous persona but a right jolly nice fellow in real life I am led to believe by an acquaintance who knew him well.

Yes, yes....I know I sound like Willo but it's true I tell thee.

So terribly sad.

That wonderful voice that could make the list of ingredients on a tin of beans sound exotic and interesting. He was my faithful travelling companion for over 20 years as I read the Standard on my way home each night.

Please or offend, at least he was always honest in his opinions.

Not one to mourn public figures usually, but I'll gladly make an exception for him.

I'm sure he was a lovely man but a pompous prick also..............in equal measures.

RIP.

A fair summing up really. We're all a bit of a mixed bag.

“Only men are capable of aesthetic greatness.”

Well said Brian.... you cunning linguist.

His voice had a tone like a well tuned Stradivarius.

RIP Brian.
