Just been away for a week to Porto santo, on the journey out and back it was announced that there was a passenger on the plane with a peanut allergy and that no peanuts would be sold and asked all passengers to refrain from eating their own supply.
Is it that bad that someone in say row 2 can open a bag of peanuts and trigger an attack for someone several rows back?

It is traditional for airlines to stop selling peanuts if they are notified that a passenger is allergic as it's thought that tiny particles can be airborne but as usual there is one scientist who has rubbished the claims. [Link]

One of the(many) schools we painted in during the summer break had a very bold warning on the reception doors & within the reception /office area stating no nuts etc to be brought into the premesis.
My wife worked with somebody who suffered nut allergy & she said somebody f***ed up once with cross contamination at a works meal & they were severely ill.
Sounds like a bad one to have.
The lactose & gluton thing seems to be getting worse / more common too.

My allergies are stupid people. Far too many on this planet. Due to the way the world works I'm not allowed to physically harm these people.

Half the people who say they have allergies is complete BS. I served a woman the other day who said she had a potato allergy, really?!

The reason there are a lot of so called allergies or intolerances is because the person doesn't like a certain food so will just play on that.

A guy at work told me he had a fatal nut allergy. I asked him how many times in the past nuts had resulted in his death. I think he thought I was being facetious.

My best man Tim had a nut allergy.

If nuts were in the room his face would puff up and go deep red.

Swallowing a small piece of a peanut would constrict his airways and kill him if he didn't get rapid treatment.

Weird!

As an aside to Dave's story, I was on a plane from Jersey to Bristol (about 20 minutes flight time) and I was in seat no. 1.

The airstewardess served me a nice ginntonic and peanuts then collapsed and needed medical attention.

I was the only one who got served on that flight.... lucky or what?

I had a ringside seat as they brought her round with smelling salts... pretty little thing she was.

I used to always suffer with cold/flu like symptoms all year round.

The doctors kept giving me anti-biotics. I was sent to a ear, nose, throat specialist who was quite angry with the doctors as he said there was nothing physically wrong with me. He did send me for an allergy test who found as well as tree and plant pollen I am also quite allergic to dust and dust mites.

I just take allergy tablets all year round and most importantly I now know the symptoms better and don't need to go bother the doctor.

Also lactose intolerent so don't stand down wind of me when I'm eating a yoghurt!
