Anyone still believe this tosh?

Turns out (surprise surprise) that money trickles from the top, not down, but to offshore accounts...

No I don't. However, I am not convinced that moving wealth by use of taxes and government planning results in the either a fairer distribution of wealth or results in people who were otherwise a drain on the state being pushed into work.

I am simply in favour of what works without getting bogged down in ideology. What is the best way of gathering a fair pot of cash, in the fairest way, that delivers a return on the investment through better growth that benefits everyone?

• This article was amended on 23 July. In the original graphic Poland was shown in the wrong place. This has been corrected

Won't dwell on that too much but I can't even see the UK on there. You know you're looking at figures of where the momney was lost, not where it's gone?

Come back in 5 years if the Conservatives fail to clamp down on it as promised.

Erm didn't they promise that last time?

No, they've just lowered corporation tax, slashed the number of people working for HMRC to track down the parasites siphoning 'our' money from us and overseen the top 1% making around the same amount of money as we have borrowed!

I can't say I blame them for putting money in offshore accounts. The way tax money is spent if I was rich I'd stick all my money in an offshore account. I don't see why all my hard earned millions should go to propping up feckless clowns who believe the government owes them a living, or immigrants who come here just for a handout, but sadly I'm just a middle income earner who's fleeced year in year out by the taxman.

Oh no not cuts!!!

It's it's all about the 1% then why not just have a hadful of people looking at the big cases?

Again the article doesn't mention the UK and there's already a tax avoidance thread in which I'm sure the contributions of the 'super rich' were detailed.

Not entirely fair to be honest Nick,

I suggest you look at APN's and retrospective taxation. If they will do that to the richest in society they will have no qualms about doing it to the poorest. This government and the last are by far and away the hardest on tax avoidance than any before.

The Corporation Tax reduction was a headline grabber but the devil as with everything is in the detail - they basically crippled small businesses in that budget with removing the dividend credit and minimum wage rises. Basically a 10% rise in 6 months and it isn't the big firms who will suffer,

At the end of the day the economy is ******. You always say it's not a race to the bottom, but in the same way you complain people outside your profession look in and cast aspersions about what you should and shouldn't do and what you should and should not be entitled to, you do exactly the same to people in other professions and lifestyles.

Unless you are public sector with a state backed pension, the world became a whole lot harder. That was a Labour budget by a Conservative chancellor.

I'm 34 years old, voted Conservative so probably serves me right - that said though I look at Jeremy Corbyn and see someone who would raise taxes and not be bothered about who they give it to. Three weeks ago I effectively took a nigh on 15% pay cut as did a lot of people who are self employed and run small businesses. I don't earn anywhere near six figures and have had to make sacrifices for what I have. I could earn more employed.

Still if being on a message board makes you feel like an intellectual as you bring up left wing article after left wing article then that's your call - but stop spouting complete b******* about things like Corporation Tax. Yes it's 1% off - which might go some way to offsetting the costs of everything going up in price - which it will.

I have to work with HMRC daily in my job. The number of jobs slashed in the last few years mean they can't even handle the people that do pay tax, let alone try and catch those that don't.

In theory it should work, and makes sense, but in reality it fails to occur, because people at a certain level won't spend more, but will save or invest their money safely, which massively reduces the trickle down.

It works well as a model of describing illegal markets (which do run on a trickle down effect), but not for legitimate businesses (illegal businesses tend to work on a pure supply and demand basis - and of course the fact that money has to be laundered or spent, it can't be directly banked or invested).
