V For Vendetta - A futuristic London which could eerily be true
Shawshank Redemption - Makes you appreciate the lengths for survival
Invictus - Sport the greatest thing to bring people together
Ghandi - Legend in humanity terms
American History X - People have the chance to change to good
Donnie Darko - Time travel (prob put Back To The Future & Terminator there too)
Interstellar - Lot of people saying this is quite a deep film. Need to see it.
Forrest Gump - Some life affirming scenes and moments in it, in such a beautifully simple film.

'4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days' - Romanian film, one of the best I've ever seen.

'Dallas Buyer's Club' was pretty thought-provoking, I thought.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Which itself was marginally better than the Terry and June film.

I always thought The Truman Show was one of the most thought provoking films I've ever seen. The fact that you are the only one in control of your actions, and you are essentially going to have to work everything out for yourself.

It also made me feel really weird for a couple of days after watching it.

2nded - a real eye opener.

There's lots of art house films that are very deep - but not always hugely enjoyable for anyone but the most patient and dedicated followers of cinema (Fellini, Passolinni, The Quay brothers - all on my watchlist but not on my recommend list)

I'd single these out

Diretors
Anything by Bela Tarr (top pick The Turin horse)
Anything by Tarkovsky
Most stuff by Mike Leigh
Anything by Jodorowsky (warning - will fuk your head up)

Films (off the top of my bonce)
Holy Motors
Dogville
The White Ribbon
Persona
400 Blows
Ida
