I can imagine some thinking that Parish has been talking about signing players of "Top 10 quality" and apart from Cabaye, the only purchases have been McCarthy and Bamford BOTH of whom have either not played at PL level or indeed haven't proved themselves at such a level.

Supporters have talked about the likes of Krul, Ba, Austin etc but this appears to have abated.

If some of the targets don't sign I can imagine supporters criticising Parish for "Lack of ambition " etc etc etc.

But of course there is still time to go before the start of the season and the end of the 'Transfer Window' - Patience !

I'd be surprised the two more were anything other than a centre back and a striker. Pretty clear we need both but only time will tell whether we get them.

Every possibility we will be waiting until Transfer deadline day to finish our business. A lot of situations in the market (like Austin at QPR) seem to be developing where clubs wont move away from a very high valuation of the player. Very mush a case of who blinks first!

This club of mine constantly tests my loyalty but I as do many other fans never falter or crumble My loyalty to the Palace will never waver My unadulterated passion for a club I’ve grown up supporting wont die, and my desire to keep coming back and take the blows won’t succumb to negativity

Is it though? I don't think we need a striker at all. This really comes down to how much you rate signing Bamford on a season-long loan.

I'm guessing your view that we need another striker means you don't rate Bamford.

Mourinho is no idiot - I can't believe he would allow Bamford to come on loan to us unless Pards had given some indication he'd see a reasonable amount of game time. Us going out and spending loads on another striker seems contrary to that.

Before I say this I want to make clear that if we went into the season with the squad we have I'd be by no means disappointed or shake my fist at some perceived lack of ambition.

So, given that I am only talking about strengthening here, not essential purchases, I'd champion the signing of another full back. I know Kelly has been utilised both as a CB and a fullback but I wouldn't mind seeing another backup should we find ourselves with a couple of injuries. We probably have a few options within the current wider squad, but I think I'd soil myself if Ward had to take some sick leave.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

strong rumours on the BBS that we are closing in on James Chester from Hull. Would be a fantastic signing. It would mean we would have four quality Centre backs, Dann, Delaney, Chester, and Hangeland, plus you could include Kelly as well, which makes five

Not that I don't rate Bamford, I haven't seen enough of him. One thing I do know is he is unproven in the Premier League. For me, including Chamakh, we have four strikers and you can throw a hat over them all. None stand out as a must pick player and I'm concerned that none of them will get over 10 goals. To be a top half side you need someone who scores goals, often out of a half chance or even less. It won't be terrible if we don't get a striker but it will be harder to finisher higher than last year.

Bamford will score goals,he is quality,Mourihno rates him highly and what i've seen of him for Boro he looks the real deal.

as for James Chester quality centre back and is only 26.
i hope we get this one over the line and of course his a Welsh international.

Think the need for another decent CB is greater than a striker. Looks the right sort of age, has PL experience. If he is composed on the ball and not afraid of a pass out of defence could be ideal.
