I am sure you have heard by now of another cinema shooting, 2 women killed, 5 others injured, shooter took his own life. But get this, in 2010 (for some reason this is the latest year they have complete figures for - 4 years to gather stats is a problem in and of itself): 31,000 people killed by guns in the USA. My sons are 14 and 16 now, and i get more concerned each year. He shot this kid in broad daylight with multiple witnesses who new who he was. Guns do not seem to be the problem, its mentality, upbringing and culture and society. But how do you fix that ? My wife is Mexican, and we have talked several time now about moving to England. Mexico is not much of an option, yes it has its violence (less shootings per capita than USA however!) but 70% of Mexico is violence free. No, its just my spanish is not good enough to work there. THere are 90 guns per 100 people in this country. THe NRA and the republicans in general, want more guns. Everyone should have a gun. Whats the answer ?

Selling guns to any Tom Dick or Harry is just stupid. I don't care it you're 'USA till I die', it's just stupid.

The US needs federal gun control, ammunition restrictions and about 30 years for that to begin to make a really significant impact. If you remove 9/11 from the equation, terrorism in the US has killed 226 people since 1970 (the height of US domestic terrorism). Guns kill about 10-15k Americans each year.

there's nothing more to say. it will get much worse before it gets better. maybe in 20 years or so. not being a pessimist but there's zero political momentum to put controls in place. all of the political power is on the pro-gun side.

I mean in the sense that compare to other countries that have similar gun ownership rates and do not have the same problems.

Guns are a part of the problem, but they aren't all of the problem.

The fact that anyone can buy a gun at a fair and by pass all the checks is just bonkers. Secondly, does anyone really need a fully automatic assault rifle!?

Nope, although such weapons are fairly well restricted, by comparison. The real question is why would anyone want to own an Assault Rifle at all (or variant there of). And what does it say about arms manufacturers that they produced a civilian version of the M-16 in order to get around potential restrictions on the ownership of such weapons. There is no feasible reason to own an assault rifle, or one that's a civilian version that's semi-automatic. No one really hunts with them (they're not accurate enough), and they're not really suited to home defense either.
