Threatens to kick the kids out altogether if they take holidays during term.

[Link]

"I think their education is more important than having a holiday with the family." It's not.

Even another head teacher thinks she's f***ing daft and reveals the real reason why they take that stance, which is the effect on the school's Ofsted rating.

Fellow Kent head teacher, Stuart Pywell, of St Stephen's Junior School in Canterbury, branded Mrs Konarzewski's proposal "draconian".

He expressed concerns schools were trying to bolster attendance.

Took my two kids out of school after Easter during school term for the first time ever. Paid 50% less than normal, hotel and flights were not busy and everywhere we went was chilled and relaxed, loved it and spent quality time with my kids. Any headteacher that takes that stance doesn't deserve to make decisions. Obviously i would not take mine out of school during exams ect but a week off in the middle of what is day to day schooling is nothing.

Totally agree. Unfortunately OFSTED are using the whole term time holidays as a stick to beat schools with. If OFSTED want something, it usually happens!

According to her you're a child abuser.

There's nothing like a bit of sensationalism in response to rational and sensible decisions, is there!

The teaching profession gets a lot of unfair stick from some....But here it's completely valid.

It's barmy.....Unfortunately being a teacher I feel that way about quite a lot of things in education.

This is a symptom of the government's shaping of education to overly focus upon set targets....attendance being one...And not look holistically at education.....Of course attendance matters but unless you're going to add meat to proposals then you're just waffling......Still when it comes to holidays....Some even handed common sense should be applied.

This kind of thing doesn't surprise me...school's management teams are shaped into these slightly ridiculous governmental mouth pieces who put out the most awful approved jargon.

I only went into teaching to teach my subject.....But the job comes with a minefield of bulls***......Mind you lots of jobs are similar so fair enough.

You take the money, you take the bulls***.

Ridiculous, obviously, but it wouldn't be an issue if the travel companies didn't shamelessly hike their prices during holiday time. Their greed leaves low income families with little choice except to go during term time or to miss out altogether.

Agree.
holidays are way better out of school holiday dates, bubble.
cheaper, the restuarants are not chocka, the holiday venues actually do give a s*** as they are not over full, less people etc.
As a painting contractor, the school holidays were the most impossible dates to go on hols.as I was painting schools.
my girls are all well out of school now, but some years when they were at school we either had no holiday or just went in October & took the consequences.
Cant take a family holiday but the school will tell you to keep the kids off when it suits them for training etc.

the problem is not one holiday during term time. the problem is people who do 2 or 3 holidays during term time over EVERY YEAR for a decade or more.....leading to academic failure, underachievement and dropping out of education at a very young age.

do you mean 2 or 3 holidays a year or 2-3 holidays , in term time ,over a decade?
I take it you mean continually, each year?
