I just got hold of the new Manics album and really like it. But although I know they have a long history I have never bern tempted to buy any of there stuff before.
Few other examples Radiohead - I like kid A but none of the other stuff.

Coldplay - I liked viva la vida but not really any of the other stuff in fact I hated their first album....to me it all sounded un finished.

anyone else had this ?

I've always been quite nonplussed by Red Hot Chili Peppers but Californication is one of my favourite albums by anyone ever.

This is controversial but I've only ever really liked The Pixies, Surfer Rosa. The other albums kept me amused for a few minutes but I soon grew weary of them - SRosa is the only one that's stuck

The Stone Roses. Second Coming isn't technically a bad album, it's just that it's awful in comparison to the first album.

David Bowie - Hunky Dory. I don't mind the rest, they're just albums where all the stand out moments are on singles.

Space Oddity isn't a bad album, its just that its has one really awesome track, and it was the single (yes I am aware that the album, somewhat confusingly, was David Bowie - even though a really sh1t 1967 album called David Bowie already existed).

This tradition generally can be seen as the norm for David Bowie albums. Like the Stone Roses, he works better on singles and EP.

The Manics for me too - but Everything Must Go is the only one I like, though I haven't heard the new one, or the one before.

Boo Radleys - Giant Steps.

Oasis - Definitely Maybe.

Placebo - Without You I'm Nothing.

To be honest some of the suggestions on here should count as blasphemy. The idea that the new Manics album is better than Everything Must Go, or Generation Terrorists, or the Holy Bible, or Gold Against The Soul.....

Or Kid A better than the rest of the Radiohead back catalogue?

DJ Shadow's Endtroducing and Ash 1977 for me. Loved both albums, but never got into anything else either have done. And would agree on the Stone Roses.

Stone Roses, 2nd dross compared to first.

Black Sabbath...epic first album, the 2nd is the first played backwards and the rest just derivitive.

There's also a shed load of bands with one excellent album but the others are saved by just one or two stand-out tracks...but that's a different topic.

If you could have an album with 12 decent but non-anthemic tunes, or one with 3 epic anthems and 9 sh*te filler tunes on, what would you pick? I think i'd go for the latter.
