Should we be defeated tomorrow (God forbid) I will conclude that the chances of our survival will be somewhat slim.
Rest assured I shall be venting my spleen and shall be at my splenetic worst.

Sadly, Willo you are right, we do really need a win today otherwise we could be in free fall towards the bottom if the other results go against us. On a brighter note BBC Sport were reporting the following graph today which gives us some hope!

statistically, we have been the weakest team in the Premier League...and i will say i am glad Viera is gone.

now, onwards and upwards.......the fightback starts today with a win against Steptoe-Vardy and all his scummy friends.

probability of relegation after that emotional victory ( the first in 3 months ( and 1 day)) down to 4% , which is the best since late November. e(p)now 43.

Zaha injury is a concern.

the Bournemouth win today will have seriously hurt Southampton.

I expect them to win tomorrow and then Moyes will be on his bottom.

Zaha injury is a concern.

Whilst I agree the injury is a concern, it may do us a favour in the next game (should Zaha likely be out) at least.

That starting line up today, whilst ok at home is not good enough for away games.

Move Schlupp to wide left and bring in Lokonga or Hughes into the midfield.

Schlupp is a definite sixty minute sub and nothing more to run at tiring defences, Hughes and Eza need to start.

I remember Benteke's second season well. He started it badly by missing several big chances (under de Boer) and then got injured. Came back and continued the trend including the last minute pen against Bournemouth after Allardyce sacked him from the job for his previous miss at Watford on Boxing Day 2016.

I recall a stat which said he missed 20 from 23 big chances in 2017-18 and can bear that out from watching the lazy overpaid fanny.

All he needed was a goal we kept hearing. But he started the following season equally badly and the howls of derision after two misses at home to Southampton were memorable. Cascarino had a column in The Times and I remembering writing he thought Benteke had the yips.

Not only that he continued his lazy ambling around and failed to work hard to play himself back into form or contribute when he wasn't scoring goals.

2019-20 started with a couple of statuesque performances against Everton and Sheffield Utd when he was finally written off and Ayew played up front scoring away to United and home to Villa in the next two games before going on to be our player of the year.

There's not much more pisses me off than being told he was good at holding the ball up (he patently wasn't he was rubbish at it) or that he was ruined by Roy and lack of crosses.

a brilliant summary. The amount of supporters who continually defended him and now bemoan the fact we finally got rid of him is unbelievable.
He performed maybe 1 game in 5, maybe less, and was predominantly lazy and uninterested. For a guy on over £100k a week that is a disgrace.

Could not agree more, he was good for one season, then someone told him he could retire and still pick his £130k/week and he did just that, he had no vision, no go and then spent most games when he got on, running around in circles keep as far away from the ball as possible. He must have been so happy when SP extended his contract paying 6.760mil/per year. Another silly SP decision.

Just to take this thread back on topic. Who is people’s 3 picks for relegation as of now?

For me:

Southampton - they are a shambles and their home form is autrocious.
Forest - away form abysmal and a very tough run in.
Everton - very tough next few games which should leave them in bottom 3 and the club seems in crisis so they will struggle with all the distractions.

At this stage it is looking likely that 37 points should be safe so my guess is the bottom three will be

Southampton 20th 31 points
Leicester 19th 34 points
Everton 18th 35 points (on GD)

I was just going to post what the thoughts on required points for safety - think 37 a fair estimate/assumption- given how tight things are and having just looked at the respective run ins of those below us.

Personally I think we need 9 points - so 3 wins from 9 games - which given our run in which on paper is by far the easier than any of those below us should be “comfortably”achievable.

On that basis Mateta’s last minute winner could prove a pivotal moment in our season..!!

But we are Palace - so anticipating a few “twists and turns” along the way..!!
