Better showing yesterday, shame about the result! Nice to meet Bakueagle and his son in the pub in Zug yesterday ...I supplied the game so I suppose it was one of the few places where you could watch Palace live in a pub in Europe.

Today the very excellent Al Stewart, if you don't know this album give it a go.
Produced by Alan Parsons, recorded at Abbey Road, cover by Hipgnosis...need I say more.

Al Stewart - Year of the Cat

Side 1

"Lord Grenville" – 5:00
"On the Border" – 3:22
"Midas Shadow" – 3:08
"Sand in Your Shoes" – 3:02
"If it Doesn't Come Naturally, Leave It" – 4:28

Side 2

"Flying Sorcery" – 4:20
"Broadway Hotel" – 3:55
"One Stage Before" – 4:39
"Year of the Cat" (Stewart, Peter Wood) – 6:40

Al Stewart - Year of the Cat

Aaah the long hot summer of 1976!

I bought this album for my beautiful funny girlfriend, Teri Higdon, who I loved dearly at the time and she dumped me in April 1980.

So for me, hearing the title song brings bitter sweet memories.....

On a morning from a Bogart movie
In a country where they turn back time
You go strolling through the crowd like Peter Lorre
Contemplating a crime
She comes out of the sun in a silk dress running
Like a watercolor in the rain
Don't bother asking for explanations
She'll just tell you that she came
In the year of the cat

She doesn't give you time for questions
As she locks up your arm in hers
And you follow 'till your sense of which direction
Completely disappears
By the blue tiled walls near the market stalls
There's a hidden door she leads you to
These days, she says, I feel my life
Just like a river running through
The year of the cat

While she looks at you so cooly
And her eyes shine like the moon in the sea
She comes in incense and patchouli
So you take her, to find what's waiting inside
The year of the cat

Well morning comes and you're still with her
And the bus and the tourists are gone
And you've thrown away your choice you've lost your ticket
So you have to stay on
But the drum-beat strains of the night remain
In the rhythm of the new-born day
You know sometime you're bound to leave her
But for now you're going to stay
In the year of the cat

Marvellous song, great Sax solos and beautiful, poignant lyrics.

I love and adore the current Mrs Hoof (since 1982) to bits and would never want to leave her, but I often wonder how my life would have turned out if Teri and I had stayed together. When she decided to split with me in 1980 I was absolutely devastated and it took years for the hurt to heal.

Hi mr. apollo,

Canadian band The Tragically Hip performed their final concert last night in Kingston, Ontario.

Are you able to find their 2005 compilation album, Yer Favourites?

Many thanks.
