I read the last few posts in this thread with real amusement. "Hope not Hate" exists as a counter to exactly the kind of views that are often expressed here. The cynical criticism just shows how much they are needed. They might be just an absurdity to some people here but to many others they represent a beacon of hope in a dark world. That matters. It is perhaps inevitable that an organisation which opposes the far right attracts people on the left but that fact ought not to obscure the value of their objectives. I oppose far right ideas and I am far from part of the left, let alone the hard left. Their objectives are set out here:- The idea that Johnson will start to "sort them out" is really risible! My expectation is that organisations like this will be encouraged and funded by the government as they try to heal a divided nation. Let's see.

'Heal a divided nation'. From the fraction who have degenerated society and caused the divide.....which is only going to worsen, any fool can see it. They use lies and smears and are thoroughly underhanded. What a joke. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Jan 2020 10.35pm)

We can disagree about the reasons why the country is divided (and I have my own opinions on that) but no-one can deny that it is divided. Playing a blame game achieves nothing. Making sure that every section of society not only has a voice which is heard, but that those in power listen to those voices, has to be the only way to begin a healing process. Johnson might be a buffoon but he has some astute political operators advising him. I am pretty sure they won't want him to deliberately seek to widen the divisions and risk losing the goodwill he now has in communities where the Tories had none in the past. There is no need to fear the left. It has committed suicide and is out of the picture for the foreseeable future.

He’s achieved more than anyone on here and more than most would even conceive of attempting.

When a crime is committed. blame gets attributed.....not shirked. Those who have downgraded society and those that have supported that downgrading via idealistic and false dreams deserve nothing but the blood on their hands. In terms of social cohesion....Brexit showed that those outside the cities very very much don't want what they know is coming. They have rejected mass immigration.....If people want 'healing' they will listen.

He adopted the leave campaign solely as a means to achieve personal ambition. He frustrated Parliament and was found to have acted unlawfully in doing so. He deliberately withheld a security report that I suspect would have torpedoed the whole strategy. He has only succeeded because of the total ineptitude of the primary opposition party. Without them, or even with them under another leader, he would probably have been toast. This situation has been gifted to him through a series of own goals. By most observers reckoning the "deal" that "got Brexit done" is weaker than the one that May negotiated. It's really not much of an achievement is it? He is a blustering buffoon whose real political nous is about to be tested for the first time as he has to decide which side of the fence he puts the UK over the current Iranian crisis. His silence isn't golden.

Editor of a national magazine, Foreign Minister, Mayor of London, Leader of his party, Prime Minister, author of several books, etc. I was concentrating on the present situation and not the past. He was though always a buffoon. A well educated one for sure but still a buffoon. Amusing on "Have I got news for you" but of concern when given real power. I personally prefer serious politicians to become our PM and not attention seekers. How do I compare? I didn't go to Eton! I grew up on a council estate, "failed" the 11+ and went to a secondary modern school leaving at 16. Nevertheless, I had a successful career which included becoming the MD of 2 businesses, one of which is a brand you will see in every supermarket. I then owned 2 businesses of my own, giving employment to many people. Edited by Wisbech Eagle (08 Jan 2020 10.50am)
