There will always be criticism and room for improvement in everything. Especially with the benefit of hindsight. It’s how we get better.

Isn't the point of the article that things didn't get better?

In the end, the Party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it. It was inevitable that they should make that claim sooner or later: the logic of their position demanded it. Not merely the validity of experience, but the very existence of external reality, was tacitly denied by their philosophy. The heresy of heresies was common sense. And what was terrifying was not that they would kill you for thinking otherwise, but that they might be right. For, after all, how do we know that two and two make four? Or that the force of gravity works? Or that the past is unchangeable? If both the past and the external world exist only in the mind, and if the mind itself is controllable—what then? [Orwell, 1984]

Hmm, a truth then and one just as present today and for always.

I expected someone would make that point, but thought it irrelevant!

I don’t think even they take themselves seriously and are more trying to encourage us to be open to viewing things from a variety of perspectives.

It said it was improving, but slowly.

Maybe not this either.

Modulo 1 arithmetic. Every number equals 0, so 2 + 2 = 0 + 0 = 0 = 5
Or
Define (+) so that x (+) y = x + y + 1. So 2 (+) 2 = 2 + 2 + 1 = 5.

Not my own work. Ripped off from someone more better at sums than me.

That’s not maths. It’s a wind up.

A number cannot equal 0. Things that exist cannot not exist.

You can define whatever you like, whichever way you like, but that doesn’t make a definition valid.

The range of values for an integer modulo operation of n is 0 to n − 1 (a mod 1 is always 0; a mod 0 is undefined, being a division by zero).

Our favourite conspiracy theorist thinks that zero isn't a number.

Oh dear.

That one would certainly be a shock to mathematicians.

Who dismissed any allegations, other than Y-L about those directed at him?

That they weren’t given publicity doesn’t mean they weren’t known about.

Maybe you could explain that in plain English?

0 might exist as a construct in pure mathematics but in the real world, as nothing cannot be something, it doesn’t actually exist.

That must be quite a shock to mathematicians!

Really? Nobody claimed the police were playing a waiting game rather than making arrests? OK.

Numbers are simply an outmoded capitalist invention and form of social control. That is your stock answer as any big birthdays approach.
