Not sure I'd conclude that Ferguson is toast. Just not fit yet, and not likely to be fit for a while, that's all. Plus Ferguson can apparently play across the back four, so he may end up at centre back, in which case we'd still need two right backs.

Sky reporting that Cahill deal is done or at least on way. Good thing too.

According to Sky Sports offers made to Ward and Cahill. According to another source, who was right about a signing on Saturday, long before news broke, Ward and Clyne have already signed, Cahill weighing up his options. Pinch of salt as always. Ward has been confirmed on club site as I type, just need Clyne to sign, Ferguson, imho, is gone, will never play in our 1st team

Ferguson is looking extremely fit right now it’s just a case of not rushing him and allowing him the time to fully recover. I hope we get to see the best of him because he could be immense for us! In the meantime we have Ward and I’m happy he’s staying.

If Cahill signs a new deal, Guehi signs and say Lookman was to replace Townsend then I don't think we'd be too far off a strong squad. Maybe bring Gallagher in on loan and things will really be looking up.

Give one of the youngsters a chance and I'm pretty sure they'd be just as effective as Townsend. I'm not that bothered if he goes, as long as we have cover. Let's face it, he'd lost most of his pace and nearly always lost the ball. He had flashes of good play each season but looked off the pace plenty of times too. I wish him every luck for the future, he served us well, but time to move on.

I would also let Townsend go. I’d like to see Ayew leave as well if possible. Neither of them have enough end product. There needs to be more players like Zaha and Eze who provide a genuine threat. Olise a good start on that front.

I would have really liked Townsend to stay, he clearly likes his time here and the players I seem to like the most, are those who want to be here the most. However reading your post has kind of changed my mind a bit. I think your right about his performances and what he does can be replaced. It would make sense to go with youth as an understudy to whoever gets a regular place. Having said that, he still offers something in terms of being a fairly good backup option and just plain old team togethernes. Is that enough? Probably not but I would offer him a smaller contract, while making it clear that his game time would be limited. If he goes for that then great or he could try and get a first team place with another team. I hate to see players that like the club leaving but, nowards and upwards first. If Townsend doesn't get a new deal, then I would like to say, thanks for your good service, really wish you well and good luck for the future.

I've enjoyed watching Townsend play for Palace, he has always put in maximum effort, and that's worth a lot. I remember being very excited when we first signed him up and he seems a likeable fella. However, the time has come to wave a fond farewell. There's little doubt he was slowing down last season and the new players coming in will be far more suited to the way PV wants us to play. Thanks for your contribution Andros and good luck in the future, whatever you do.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |
