Sash -- meeting of the minds. Just a couple of additional points:

Launchberry has to start but it's madness that we didn't take Dave Attwood. Certainly offers more than Parling. Serious mistake.

Luke Wallace (Quims) may be the long-term solution at 7 but this RWC has come too early for him. Also a problem getting playing time with Robshaw at openside for Quims as well as England.

Joe Marler really didn't have a very good game. But hopefully a kick up the arse will turn that around.

We really are short of quality 10s. Besides the two who are in the squad, both of whom come up short, Cips has improved his defending but is still short of the very top class mark. Smyler doesn't make mistakes but doesn't really fire the imagination either. No better than the two who are there. Same is really true at 9: we are short of alternatives (although I might have taken Dicko rather than Wrigglesworth.)

Burrell is probably wondering what the point of the last two years has been? He's played the big matches, he's delivered, he's scored tries, and he's omitted for a complete amateur who's being paid a lot of money by the RFU. You could see it coming.

I am biased but absolutely big Joe has to play and I agree - I have never got behind Parling. Not he isn't good at what he does, he is, but he doesn't ever really shine for me, he's purely functional at the line out and err that's it..really one dimensional footballer.

As much as it pains me Cips wasn't ready or up for this - too long out of this level and would have been a waste of the last few years to move from Farrell and Ford (even though, as you say they did it for Burgess).

I think England, well Lancaster has to actually decide what kind of team he wants - they seem a half way house for me still - sometimes free flowing, sometimes grinding but there is no real brand identity to this side, play is often slow and stilted or error strewn then they go and play a blinder...consistent they aint...

Going off on a bit of a tangent you could argue that at least 5 or 6 players who should be in this squad aren't - Attwood, Eastmond, Yarde, Wade, Armitage, Manu, Corbs, Burrell, Foden, Ashton to name but a few contenders....

When do tickets for the later stages become available? Or are they already available? Excuse my ignorance.

Not taking anything away from Japan, but it seems they have the England cricket team beat when it comes to using foreign players.
I have been out of Rugby for years though, so dont know if this is a common thing amongst international rugby these days.

9 of them. They've got less in their squad than Wales, Scotland or France have though.

Regardless of that it was a monumental result

So, I was in my local hotel bar yesterday, which was unusually packed with some rather large chaps all wearing green shirts and speaking Afrikaans.....have to thank the bar staff for having the guts to allow me one screen to watch the West Ham/Man City match. Good game but spoiled by some loud and unusual noises which although I don't speak Afrikaans, I guessed were obscenities being yelled at the other tv screens. Sorry guys, can't get excited about rugby.

After the game, when the main post-match train got back to Victoria Station, the Bokke supporters formed a guard of honour and applauded the Japanese fans through the barriers first. Classy. That's the sort of thing that makes World Cups.

If true... that's a nice touch - very classy!

The Saffers at work and that I know are putting a very brave face on it, lots of 'glad to have been in such a great game' and 'Japan deserved it at the end' and 'It might do us favours to finish second in the pool'.....as the yoots say LMFAO - they are dying inside

A month ago I was confident we could with a little fortune get out of the group. Now I can only see it happening with a gargantuan slice of luck.

Injuries have taken their toll and we simply don't have the squad depth

The team can only give everything for the cause. If they do that they, and our fans, can look back and think they gave their all and no-one can ask for more than that.

I think it will be very difficult, as England and Australia are both good sides, but they are one off matches and on the day anything can happen.

Truly historic day.

The first time there's been a full house at the Andrex on 80 minutes.

I feel for both player and spectator. An hour scrubbing with Vim will never remove either stain or smell.
