I do wonder whether Roy would have set the team up any differently from Pat in that tough run of games e.g. Man City at home where we might well have got a point had Olise not made a rash challenge in the box. Roy has undoubtedly brought a change of mood but he has done it against relatively weak opposition.

And, when it comes to discussions about boring football
we have seen over the years I am surprised that Dougie’s tenure apart from half a season or so never gets a mention.

Roy was predictably and dull at times, but when you have had to sit through Peter Taylor's tenure on cold nights in the Championship, nothing seems that bad.

That really was an awful time and for reasons just or not I still have nightmares about Mark Kennedy and Stuart Green being named in a Palace starting line up.

Could never quite understand what either of them brought/did etc.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Sheesh, people don't half like getting carried away on here, lol.

I like RH, and and the first to admit that it I was wrong, and he has made a tremendous impact upon his return, but 3 games against bottom of the the league oppo is not enough of an indicator to judge exactly where we are.

RH has come in, and we are playing with a renewed freedom - but let's not kid ourselves, in those 3 games there were times where we haven't competed and rode our Luck(aka 1st half vs leeds). In our last vs southampton, we didn't look anywhere near the attacking force we were (at times) vs Leeds or Leicester.

He's been a breath of fresh air since the times of PV, but lets all remember the lesson Ole Gunnar Solskjær taught ManU fans. It's waaaay to soon, and with our remaining fixtures, the minimum I'd expect is comfortable safety, from any manager worth his salt.

Spot on Badger.

Looking at our remaining fixtures, there's no reason we can't be aiming to hit the high 40s and even the 50 point mark - not because we're suddenly brilliant we're not - the teams we've just played were worse than us) but because all but 2 of our remaining games are against teams currently below us in the table. How near we get to 50 points with Hodgson at the helm will tell us how good his return has been.

Leeds have the Don Revie stand, a most unpleasant person who walked out on England for Arab money. Roy is a true gent and Palace through and through.

Indeed, and that's no sleight on Vieira. either. these 3 games - against arguably the weakest teams in the division - could have equally have seen a return to form for him too (although I do doubt even that based on how he had us playing at the end) They've been SO poor, that to make an emotional appointment based purely on these 3 results in isolation is dangerous.

The Telegraph is running a story this evening that the club want Roy to stay on and mentor a new manager.
Those who wanted Roy to stay on and mentor McCarthy may get their wish.
In reality I’m unsure how this would work .
Roy and Ray are very hands on and I’m not sure how team selection and coaching would operate in this scenario.
The uncharitable part of me thinks it could be Parish and Freedman seeking to do things on a shoestring, but even if this is the case and it works there won’t be much cause for complaint.

At what point would the future incumbent feel free to make his own decisions without the mentoring from Hodgson?

I’m not convinced with the mentoring idea. It smacks of hand holding and players may see it as a sign of weakness and question who is the boss. The relationship between player and manager is key.

I’ve no problem with an unofficial behind the scenes mentoring deal which isn’t in the players faces. A sort of of a retainer for Roy which McCarthy for example could use.

If I have one concern about McCarthy is that he needs to learn how to be bold. I appreciate he only had one game in the limelight but his decision to play Milo was slightly odd and smacked of a misguided view about what ‘experience’ brings to the party. Experience is good as long as you don’t pitch up with a zimmer-frame. Sorry Milo.

Depending upon fitness and desire, Roy and Ray next season.

Paddy is fine but two is company, three is a crowd.

Roy is not the future and the sooner we find a long term replacement the better. Another 12 months of uncertainty will hinder any possible recruitment in the summer.

Paddy is already in the dugout getting mentoring. This report merely confirms continuation of what is currently in place.

Got a horrible feeling Arne Slot takes over, gets in a jam after 7 games and Roy & Ray return to see us out of trouble next season. Not sure the Dutch league is all its cracked up to be.
