Shame really, tho after the seasons they've had, i'm hoping more people will watch/go to their matches next season. Edited by eagleman13 (18 May 2021 11.50am)

That is pretty much how I would have liked it. BTW the bile spewed at Ward and Dann is unfair. Neither expected to play much this season but have stepped up to the best of their ability. To spend a great deal to replace perfectly good second XI players is simply daft. And before you attack their ability, I would also like to see back-up players warming our bench who are of top half quality. But then we don't all have the financial backing of Man City do we? Even Liverpool struggled with their support players when their first choices got crock. Dann has been a huge part of our success in recent years. He is a long way over the hill though, he was arguably never the same following that ACL injury against City and this season has been another drop. His lack of speed in a 1 on 1 situation is leaving us so exposed and we have to defend really deep to cover him. I'm not asking for a top half Premiership quality CB as cover (although I'd like one in our starting team), but I don't think he's even top half Championship quality anymore. Next year, we need to be buying new starters which moves the current starters (e.g. Cahill) to cover. The cover (i.e. Dann) can then become surplus, absolute emergency backup if really necessary.

As fo who i would consider to be given a chance in the 1st team, hmmm, tricky one that. Hannam, Rak-Sakyi, Omilabu, Rich-Baghuelou, Webber(GK), Banks, Spence, Mathews, O'Brien & Street, could all push for being involved in & around the 1st team for next season. You also have the likes of Adaramola, Wells-Morrison, Mooney, Gordon, Cadogan & Akinwale pushing for inclusion to the U23's & 1 or 2 of them could push to be included with the 1st team, training or on the bench. All those ive mentioned could/would do well to be included in cup games that our (current) 1st team dont like. This is all subjective, open for debate & just MY opinions.
I've suggested Hannam already. Of the others you name, I agree that both Rak-Sakyi and Omilabu currently have what it takes to develop into first team players but they will probably need another year or so. As for the others: I find Mathews frustrating; his occasional sublime play is sandwiched between too many periods of inconsistency. I worry about his temperament. Webber is ready imo to be our no 3 GK in place of Henderson. He would benefit from a loan spell at a decent League 1 club. I need to see more of Spence and O'Brian. Rich-Baghelou is improving all the time and I love his Maguire like forays forward. He would benefit from some one-to-one coaching from Gary Cahill. I don't think he's quite ready yet but I'd like to see him given good opportunities pre-season to see where he's at, especially given our CB crisis. I agree with you re those you mentioned from the U18s. Finally, I want to see the RB Danny Imray back fit. Only saw him the twice before he got injured, but he was interesting. I would welcome the thoughts of others who have regularly watched the youngsters over the season.

I would still like to see us trying out some emerging talent in the last 2 games. Apart from 500k per place, what have we go to loose? Edited by Bingee (18 May 2021 4.57pm)

The best of the emerging talent will no doubt get their chance in the pre-season games which may also determine who goes out on loan for further development and who may be ready to join the 1st team squad. Edited by doombear (18 May 2021 5.57pm)

Keeping good pros and characters I have no problem with as they won't disrupt the team when not in the side but can be trusted with the odd match here and there (but should absolutely not be seen as starters otherwise we have no hope next season). If the above is done then absolute musts for me in the transfer market is a CB, winger and box to box midfielder all of whom are ready to start/compete. We then of course have the fullback position to assess (a lot of hope currently being invested in Fergusson but this is obviously a massive risk). We'll then need to rely on finding some bargains to pad out the squad and can also pray that some youth players make huge strides and help fill gaps in certain positions. Considering the the role of manager is also up in the air this is a truly monumental task that those in charge are going to have to face. Plus there's the Covid situation, tight funds, and the Euro's in offseason it's going to be a tricky time (but we won't be alone in that). I'm excited to see how it pans out in probably a more masochistic kind of way. One thing is for sure...a lot is going to have to happen pretty soon if we're going to keep ourselves in the Premier League. Not only are the three new signings a brilliant start to the transfer window, I am equally pleased that we are freshening things up and letting others leave. As grateful as I am for their services to the club, moving on the likes of Sakho, PVA, Hennessy, Wickham, Townsend & Dann has freed up a huge amount of wages and at the same time released players that are well past their best and freed up places in the first team squad.

The contract end dates are not always 1st July. contracts will run until 30/6 but if the player has no other club then the current club must pay an extra 1 month's salary so in theory the end date is 31/7. Most clubs therefore wait until the end of July to sign an out of contract player.
