i get that...but he is still not very good even when played in his preferred position, IMO schluppy or andros should start in front of him.

we can look all the stats in the world to agree or disagree with roy being manager...all that matters at the end of the day is how many points after how many games and by that yardstick he is going a fantastic job.

You are 100% correct and one of the few one here that seem to understand being a Palace supporter.

Sorry to disagree but Eze has shown no appetite for a fight since he has been here. Yes loads of talent and ability but absolutely no talent for working hard to make things happen. Nothing to do with Roy all to do with Eze and his lack of desire to work. Ayew does work and was doing what was always asked of him but just having an off day.

Agree, doesn't matter where Eze is played or where you think he he should be played, if he is selected to play he should do a darn site better than he did today.
Our whole game is based on teamwork, organisation and working hard and keeping mistakes to a minimum. We were under the cosh as we usually are against a top team playing at the top of their game, we didn't need Eze to gift them their first goal before we could adjust or settle down.
He is gifted and talented but still very much work in progress.

Did I miss something? Eze was LM and Ayew RM, where they've been playing all season. Chelsea pressed from the front resulting in the two receiving the ball in defensive positions but they were definitely not CDMs.

If Roy had played 3 CDMs at home and lost, he'd be blamed for not having a go at home. He can't win.

You are absolutely correct. We have fans saying that that was a defensive set up. Zaha Benteke Ayew Eze is far from defensive.

The problem with this game is that Roy should have actually played a defensive set up and played Schlupp and Townsend to protect our full backs.

Anytime we play Riedewald and Luka in midfield we may as well play 2 subbuteo men in there.

Eze made a bad mistake but he will learn from it. He has done that exact same manoeuvre on the edge of his own box all season and got us out of many tricky situations with the ball. If he kicking it into row Z every time he would get slaughtered, he tries to keep the ball he gets slaughtered. The chap just can’t win.

Smashing football talent and we are blessed to have him.

We can pick on individuals, and do. But the bottom line is our mid-field is just not good enough when pressed in the way it was. And that was going to apply no matter who we put out there. Even with changes in the second half we could have shipped several goals. It’s really not a matter of playing anyone out of position. You are either a top class mid-fielder or you are not, if the opposition set you a problem you solve it, The team yesterday was unchanged , and was set up to contain , but get at Chelsea, when the opportunity arose .
None of it mattered because the bottom line was no matter the line up we were not anywhere near good enough. And not for the first time in these circumstances.
I think if you listen to Hodgsons comments prior and after the game
he is only to well aware things have never been totally satisfactory regarding the ability of this squad, and that the situation is becoming worse. His comments seem to be those of a very nice man , trying to say ,they ain’t,t F—-ing good enough.

Whats the point in getting players in if they aren't played braunston?

I mean Zaha is a winger playing as a forward when Bats and Mateta are on the bench, eze is an attacking midfielder playing cdm with Mccarthy bench warming, Kouyate is a cdm playing in defence with Dann and Kelly about, Schlupp is bench warming when he is creating chances more often than not.

My opinion is cpfc can buy players but the manager needs to play them and in the right positions or even play them...
Mateta won't be excited about joining now..I have no doubt.

Really good post. Very difficult NOT to accept the validity of the points made.

So starting a game with the intention of not losing is a mistake in your book?

You would prefer us to start with the mindset of losing is ok.

What facts don't lie? I don't see any facts in your post, opinions yes, facts nah.

Or, do you mean that your opinions are actually facts?

All a bit confusing

If ever there was a post that highlighted the ridiculous notion of one extreme or the other.

Guess to you doing a fantastic job is how he has managed to change the name of our Club to Crystal Pinata Football Club. Take away the luck component and your Roy being still in the job is just privilege. You guys talk of him not having spend options. B.S. When he was England Manager he could cherry pick from the league, only to be humbled by little Iceland. $hit this same Chelsea against newly promoted WBA last week turned tail.

Ouch!!!! For me, this is why you keep Roy. We only invested around 16m when we made a 5m profit last year. To think we are going big in the summer is delusional,

I don’t think we will spend a lot in the summer. It will take 2-3 seasons to get out of this mess and unfortunately stying in the league, regardless of performances is 100% priority.

My feelings also as I've said on several threads. There won't be a big clear out this summer. I think it will be a case of
1) hard bargaining to significantly lower the wage bill with those the club wish to keep.
2) one (or possibly two) fairly cheap purchases
3) more loan players in, possibly with one having a buy option.
4) If Hodgson wants another year (at reduced salary) he might well be given it.

I'm NOT saying this is what I want - rather it's what I expect is most likely. I may well be wrong, of course. Time will tell.
