We kept hearing about this wonderful young talent from Germany but I don't recall any great demand for his services from clubs in the Bundesliga or other PL clubs in this country.

There would have been demand , but his agent out priced him and the larger clubs walked away.

The agent held firm and the mid tier teams aka Palace had a sniff.

Almost certainly his contract has been paid up so i doubt Palace are 'saving' any money.

Such a shame, he could probably prosper in a Man City type team and as we saw last night we are miles away from that.

After a couple of sub appearances i said he reminds me of a poor man's Barry Bannan - similar build and style but not as creative.

That is the real question; how much was he paid to terminate. Or has he really just left without a fee involved? Expect no statements from the club but you would think most players would either sit tight or agree a compensation to cover the expected loss in wages to come. Unless Max is a man of principle and just thought " enough is enough" but somehow I doubt it.

But if we paid up his contract it doesn't save us anything at all as presumably we paid him the balance all in one go

I presume we came to a termination agreement. I believe it is a lump sum, but usually less than the full contract would cost. Obviously both sides have to agree to the termination, meaning 'mutual consent'.

seems the logical solution. So he likely will expect between 30-40 percent of his wages in the Bundesliga or somewhere obscure like the Dutch league, then we likely will have paid him the balance.

Best solution for all involved really, a failed gamble indeed.

His passing and ball retention would have been useful last night.

You never know.

No questions about his attitude, just one of those things.

If it was me, and I was asked to pay for a creative replacement, I would tell Hodgson what did you do with the last one?

We are going to look like right pr1cks if he does well. I'm not saying Meyer was great when he played for us but he was just about adequate. The galling thing is he's not really any worse than what we have. We make Micheal Hughes look like Maradona. I believe he needed more games. When you think of some of the fees for players, it seems a shame we got nothing for him. It's kind of all a big 'whatever' now.

Meyer is a good player in the right team.

If you were building a new Palace side based on passing he'd be useful, however Palace remain a side based upon the quick break and if the reports of his wages are correct it was never going to work.

I think the more likely scenario was that he asked to be released on some kind of agreement that if he got a job elsewhere his current employer would get to waiver some wages. Either way though, its highly unlikely that we've just stopped playing him and his wage will still count towards FFP.

With the new work permit rules, he might not be permitted a job in the UK as he has barely featured in top league.

Stranger still, is that we couldn't field a full bench yesterday. Giving the impression that the termination was instigated by Meyer (after not getting selected for Wolves), rather than the club (as they knew how many players they'd have available two days before the game)

A bad signing.

Clearly not wanted by Hodgson, showing once again a disconnect between Dougie/Steve and Roy on transfers.

Parish thought this was a great signing as it was a free, but we then had a squad player on 170ka week offering no value whatsoever to the side.

Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha.

He wasn't on even close to 170k a week.

Yet another skilful player failing to make the grade under the manager's tuition.

Sorry to see him go but am sure he will come again somewhere.

My big worry is that Mr Hodgson will try to make Eze into a player he is not and we will lose the undoubted flair he brings as a consequence.

It was about £125k a week (combining his weekly wage and his bosman bonus/signing on fee) - hardly a low wage.
Even with Palace's inflated wage bill the average is c£56k a week
