Cascarino: ‘Palace desperately need a long-term strategy (Tony Cascarino, the Times today) Me: If you ever listen to Tony Cascarino you’ll notice he’s one fick fvck. What he’s said is the case for many clubs in the prem now and in the past. Ask some of the bigger clubs below us in the championship who didn’t get this or gave into fan pressure. He’s right on the age of players and Roy’s age or stuck in his ways/not moving with the times, possibly doing gradual damage to the squad and its value/age etc as a cost to his methods in staying in the Prem, if that ever entered his limited brain. But saying ‘who is being groomed groomed to take over from Roy Hodgson?’ Who the fvck does that anyway? They might have a secret shortlist Tony Cascarino won’t have a clue is on it but I can’t think of any clubs grooming managers to take over the manager. He gets paid to write that Sh1t as well. On this radio programme he articulates the point a bit better, yet fails to include one very big and basic fundamental reason. The ownership and financing of cpfc. If he did that he’d find and give reasons for all of it, whether right or wrong. Maybe his brain can’t take on a further variable on the subject. Edited by Rudi Hedman (27 Jul 2020 4.09pm)

Don’t think there’s anything particularly controversial or contentious in what Cascarino says, but of course financial planning is pretty fundamental to what we are able to do moving forward and he obviously doesn’t address this.

I put it here as it seems the most relevant topic to this, but anyway, here it is a piece I just read.

The other 50% will have an alternative view and I don't think it has anything to do with age. You either like and accept where we are at or you don't.

So I sympathise with his views on the impatience, hypocrisy, anger and rudeness of many of our fans. But let's not ignore our mind-numbing play. 5 years ago I introduced an ancient friend to the Palace. He'd never been to a live match and was bowled over by the noise, the singing, the camaraderie. He loved it and still does. But he's noticed that much of that atmosphere has drained away. I could only say that year after year of unattractive football and few goals inevitably dampen even the most loyal supporters' enthusiasm. But, to get back to the point, in no way does it justify the vitriol that flies around the Chairman, Manager and players. I've decided that the best thing about old age is that one becomes more philosophical, which makes for a happier life.

I have seen probably more bad times than good but Palace are my team and always will be. I believe that atmosphere has diminished over the last couple of seasons, the reason for this I will not speculate. I have every sympathy with Roy as I do not feel he has been backed, although I admit having more than a passing moan about him.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |
