He has a point but what do you expect when you have owners who wont put any money into the club.

One more point

I’ve coated Cascarino off in the other ‘Enigma’ thread.

Cascarino:

‘Palace desperately need a long-term strategy
Crystal Palace are the weirdest team in the Premier League — I have absolutely no idea what their long-term plan is. Sure, they’ve stayed in the Premier League for seven seasons but is that all they exist to do? Surely you need to at least aspire to something more? Their players are the oldest in the league, the manager has done well but will be 73 next month. Where are the players coming through to challenge for places? Who is being groomed to take over from Roy Hodgson? They are an enigma.’

(Tony Cascarino, the Times today)

Me: If you ever listen to Tony Cascarino you’ll notice he’s one fick fvck. What he’s said is the case for many clubs in the prem now and in the past. Ask some of the bigger clubs below us in the championship who didn’t get this or gave into fan pressure.

He’s right on the age of players and Roy’s age or stuck in his ways/not moving with the times, possibly doing gradual damage to the squad and its value/age etc as a cost to his methods in staying in the Prem, if that ever entered his limited brain. But saying ‘who is being groomed groomed to take over from Roy Hodgson?’ Who the fvck does that anyway? They might have a secret shortlist Tony Cascarino won’t have a clue is on it but I can’t think of any clubs grooming managers to take over the manager. He gets paid to write that Sh1t as well.

On this radio programme he articulates the point a bit better, yet fails to include one very big and basic fundamental reason. The ownership and financing of cpfc. If he did that he’d find and give reasons for all of it, whether right or wrong. Maybe his brain can’t take on a further variable on the subject.

Don’t think there’s anything particularly controversial or contentious in what Cascarino says, but of course financial planning is pretty fundamental to what we are able to do moving forward and he obviously doesn’t address this.
In my experience reading and listening to commentators they don’t really get Palace with many myths such as ‘ fortress Selhurst is a difficult place to come and get a result’ and ‘ Palace are real threat on the counter attack with their pace.’
Our home form has been patchy at best in recent seasons and we haven’t really counter attacked with pace since Bolassie and Zaha operated in tandem.
If you’re not one of the top clubs forget it with regard to proper analysis.
If and when Zaha goes what will the pundits talk about when discussing Palace?
They can’t even mention the now departed Kayla the eagle.

I put it here as it seems the most relevant topic to this, but anyway, here it is a piece I just read.
Thank God finally a piece spot on from top to bottom.

A piece that will resonate with approximately 50% of our fan base. The other 50% will have an alternative view and I don't think it has anything to do with age. You either like and accept where we are at or you don't.

All I can say is Amen to that. I agree with every last word of that fantastic article.

I'm considerably older than the author so I too have witnessed the rough as well as the smooth. So I sympathise with his views on the impatience, hypocrisy, anger and rudeness of many of our fans.

But let's not ignore our mind-numbing play. 5 years ago I introduced an ancient friend to the Palace. He'd never been to a live match and was bowled over by the noise, the singing, the camaraderie. He loved it and still does. But he's noticed that much of that atmosphere has drained away. I could only say that year after year of unattractive football and few goals inevitably dampen even the most loyal supporters' enthusiasm.

But, to get back to the point, in no way does it justify the vitriol that flies around the Chairman, Manager and players.

I've decided that the best thing about old age is that one becomes more philosophical, which makes for a happier life.

Next year will be the 60th anniversary of my first Palace game. I have seen probably more bad times than good but Palace are my team and always will be. I believe that atmosphere has diminished over the last couple of seasons, the reason for this I will not speculate. I have every sympathy with Roy as I do not feel he has been backed, although I admit having more than a passing moan about him.
I would like new owners to buy out the Americans but to get the ideal owners may be complete wishful thinking.
At the end of the day we are little old Palace but our little old Palace, let’s get behind them and hopefully have another relegation threatened season. ( some new signings wouldn’t go amiss though!)

That's the most realistic hope for a new season that I've ever heard!
