Having been born -and having lived all my life - just three miles from our ground, I really take my hat off to all of you who routinely undertake lengthy time-consuming journeys so that you can continue with your physical and financial support for the Club. I've been amazed to learn on this thread how many of you super-loyal fans we have. I agree, unbelievable some people, I used to moan about having to walk up to the ground all the way from Portland Road in South Norwood Edited by monkey (27 Feb 2020 6.21pm)

PALACE FOR EVER London 27 Feb 20 7.14pm | |

From the start in the mid '70's (age it was Liverpool because of their success at the time. Then Palace two years later through my Grandad mid 1976/77 season. Other close family no interest in football whatsoever. Went to my first match with my Grandad in August 1977. All this time & still do live about 2 miles away from the ground.
The pyramid to beat all pyramids!! Find out what team is in which division, eg which division is Coppull United in? |

I was raised in a quiet market town in North Yorkshire called Pickering and started supporting Palace in 1993 as a 6 year old because I discovered I shared the same surname as one of Palace’s player...Eric YOUNG! I also liked the name and the colour of the kit. There weren’t many 6 year old Palace fans in North Yorkshire at the time and everyone ripped me for it telling me I’d soon start supporting a different team but 27 years on I just as obsessed as I was back then!

I'm a Yank who spent a gap year at school in Shropshire in the early '70's, loving every minute of it. I played a bit of football there, and four years of it at University here in the States, badly. Some of my most cherished memories of my magical year included watching MOTD on Saturday nights at school and seeing ManU with George Best play Arsenal while standing on the clock-end terraces. Were I fan of the Gunners, I might capitalize "clock" and "terraces"... Still, I didn't become a full-time Premier League fan until recently, as US television coverage improved. I chose to follow Palace for several reasons, among them the dazzling name, the beloved color scheme, the proud mascot, and my long-ago association of "Crystal Palace" with the thrilling 10,000m world-record run by the incomparable David Bedford. Watching a few Palace matches, I was smitten with the most loud and loyal fans in the League. How could anyone witnessing the boundless support offered by the Selhurst faithful -- not feel Glad All Over? Two discoveries which sealed the deal, as we say, were a mesmerizing YouTube skills video of Wilf and the fact that the pre-eminent U.S. match-day television hostess Rebecca Lowe was a Palace fan. And she -- a deity to all U.S. Premier League fans -- she herself, spent a gap year at my school in the U.S. As much as I believed I was making a conscious decision to follow Palace, in retrospect I realize it was merely my destiny. The path to Palace was in the stars. *I hasten to add how fervently I wish I had the means to buy the club from my seemingly indifferent compatriots and invest the funds that the Club and its fans deserve. Born in Redhill to a Scottish Farther at about eight or ten he would say sometimes do you want to go to the football I always said yes. So, in the 60s we watched teams from up north all it seems with names beginning with B Burnley Blackburn Bury Blackpool Bolton Bradford Barnsley play Bert Heads team the football was second division the pitch was crap the football was crap all said with hindsight. Then after a few years a Malcolm Allison with a fedora came Third Division football Kenny Samson left back Peter Taylor on the wing slaying all before them, exciting football I was sold on Palace for life I had hope. Born 2 1/2 miles from SP. My sister went to school in what is now the car park. My dad used to take me and his dad - who I never knew - took him before. I’ve supported Palace for around 57 years After a while I left my dad in the old stand as I wanted to sing in the Holmesdale. And that is what I do today. With my own son. Nowadays I live just slightly closer to the ground. Edited by Mapletree (29 Feb 2020 12.03am)
