A total of 16 goals from 18 PL games which is hardly surprising when we failed to bolster our attacking options in the last window and we have a workmanlike rather than creative midfield.

True but I still saw nothing to suggest we will be in trouble come the end of the season.

Are you lot serious, we played brilliantly today had complete defensive control over them and were the only team trying to put the ball into the net, we had at least six brilliant opportunities to score where actually doing so would have been easier! I don't understand how everyone on here just didn't see the same game, only one team in it very very very against the run of play that.

Agree with this summary

The only way we will be to able to strengthen our forward options to a significant degree is if Zaha departs.Other than that 'Loan' signings, free transfers or forwards who are relatively cheap for a good reason.

Not too sure why you say this. We sold Wan-Bissaka for £55M, so why can't we spend some of that?

Our luck simply ran out today. First half we weren't great but second half we dominated until the last 10 minutes. Zaha was poor by his standards today though and made Bentenke look workmanlike.

Newcastle were awful for most of the game and got very lucky.

When you look at the maths we haven't done badly today. Not much in it, in a poor 1st half but largely had most of the 2nd. Both teams have experienced PL managers, the difference Bruce spent over £60 million in the summer whilst Roy spent peanuts. Also we are set up to have games like this and I would be hardly surprised to see other games in the rest of the season go this way. However if say 3 go this way then 3 will probably go in our favour. No chance of a change this season as the ghost of FDB still haunts Selhurst and Roy ain't a manager to change things up and he is doing a great job on financial scraps within this league.

Have to disagree.. Not a bad performance.. just did not take our chances or have some luck. The mistake for the goal was PVA did not pick up the player in the corner.

Positives.... Nice to see some passing, Tompkins was superb, Benteke looked better than Monday and no injuries..

Negatives...beaten at our own game, should have made the sub earlier, blooming cold.

Now for a 6 hour journey home...

Mate Roy was appalling! What's the point having a manager that doesn't acts when it's needed... Watching him in the end of the match in the sidelines with hands in the pockets completely lost unfortunately explain what really happened...

Thought today Benteke played very well and actually looked again like he could possibly score and that is quite hard to believe I know but our forward play looked superb to me we had lots of lovely flicks and one twos which Newcastle only had last ditch desperate stuff to deny us on many occasions, all ricochets landed at Newcastle feet and I simply cannot understand everyone's reaction on here.

My take on the game was that it was played between two very poor teams for which the one that lost was the better of those poor sides. Our passing was slow and mostly backwards giving them time to get behind the ball. We didn’t hit them fast enough with no one able to create a killer ball except for when McCarthur fell over when he should have scored. Luka and McCarthur were the two main culprits for not being able to deliver to the forward line. Zaha also looked out of it and we rely on him to create something from nothing. Those that think we are safe should look at the table and the few points separating us and third from bottom. 8 points I believe? There is still a long way to go and we could slip down easily. And of course we could stay mid table but lose against Spam and the doubts will creep in :-(

While Roy is in charge nothing will change.

People can come out with excuses like injuries but that is just an excuse many other teams have injuries and we still had enough quality to beat these today but same old negative tactics.

The guy had Benteke playing on the wings at times.

He took the risk with PVA but why not try him more advanced we know he is much better doing forward and stick one of the young lads in left back even Riedewald.

We just can't play against teams around our own level due to poor tactics which Roy clearly does not know how to adapt to.

I can see West Ham thumping us hope it's not true but got a bad feeling

I wonder how Roy has been in management for 40 years, not a bad career. You on the other hand know all the answers, but don't get the opportunity, just spout negativity after every game, even if we win you find fault.
