Hodgson has said that in midfield we are "Blessed in that department" and have "Strength of numbers" so what may one ask was the rationale for signing Camarasa who clearly never fitted into our system ?

After signing Camarasa,Rakip,Jach,Sako,Sorloth etc is it any wonder that supporters are quizzical about our recruitment?

After watching football for many years, you must know that not all signings work out. Often what you get is not what you expected to end up with. We aren’t the only club to make mistakes, an example recently which is quite high profile, Drinkwater went to Chelsea for £40m didn’t work out, now taken on loan to Burnley and still not getting a game. He was a key player in Leicester’s title year, now in a different environment can’t perform.

I trust Roy.

I have no idea what went wrong but from the outside I think we have a solid happy hard working squad and my impression is that Roy expects new players to fit into that ethos. The only one who probably has any latitude is Wilf.

If I was a player I would like to work with a manager that has that ethos, work hard, fit in and play for the team. You know where you stand. If Camarasa wasn't prepared to do that then I think Roy was entitled to bench him.

The question really should be why did we recruit him I would have hoped that someone would have done their homework. There are stories that Ferguson had people following around target players to check on their social life etc. before he signed them, makes sense to me.

Every club signs a dud I don't know if Roy wanted him or he was foisted on him time to move on.

And Burnley have ditched him as well he is now at the Villa.

I totally agree with this.

Reidewald has shown that we have talented players in the squad he just refused to use.

The manager has surely got to have some say on players we sign?!

Some might blame this on Camarasa's bad attitude, this is all just hear say, but if you know you aren't going to get a look in, then why should you bother.

Roy's been around long enough to know how to keep a job. If he doesn't get involved in transfers, then it's one less thing to be accountable for.

Managers don't get involved in transfers though do they ?

They identify positions that they want players for and then it's over to the Director of Football ( in our case Freedman ) to recruit the players.

But go ahead and have another ill informed pop at Hodgson

Think Roy, great as he has been for us has a default play to not lose, and when you do try to equalize philosophy. thus he prefers to work in the realm of what he knows first.it had to take a ward injury and awb hitting it right out of the park. meyer is another example. jairo yet another. wont dare to use them creatively from the outset

Typical Hodgson. Will never play a creative attacking midfielder. If I was Meyer I'd be thinking hard about my future. Absolute disgrace. Nor do I beleive this 'bad attitude' business - Warnock seemed to think he was OK.

To be fair to Roy, I saw AWB alot in the U23 before he got his chance and never thought for a minute he would make such an impact in the first team. He was OK but never more. With Jairo wasn't it only a few games ago against Watford that people on here were still slatting him?
Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Simply not the case. Historically, he's had issues at pretty much every club he's been at. Including Cardiff under Warnock. Great quote from him here sums him up for me...

"I think it's down to the player really. If you saw Sol Bamba's scan on his thigh then he wouldn't have played the last six weeks and he's probably been our best player, and he told me 'I'm alright gaffer.' And I think that that's the makeup of players, (some are) stronger than others."

Essentially, talented guy, knows it, doesn't work hard enough and head easily turned. I do agree that this should have been looked at more before signing but maybe they just took a gamble on him.

Mercenary. Doesn't fit well into a hard working, dedicated tight knit squad.

Simple as.

PS. On Meyer – he's a creative player but he is tiny, not physical enough and will only ever make a difference in certain games where he has space and isn't going to be bullied on the pitch. That's why he is so effective as a second half sub – can come on when players are more tired and less likely to track and hassle him. I can therefore understand why he doesn't play enough, although he has also been injured for a while and was just getting a run in the team before Auba nailed him.

Roy has ALWAYS had his own ideas and will never ever change I am afraid.... He DOES have his favourites!!

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky.

Zola or dennis wise werent any bigger if not a bit smaller and they tore teams apart.
But all of this doesnt matter if Meyer is going to be injured for a while
