there is surely a job for the DSS in managing the mix in an area. If an area has gone all ( insert name of group here ) i am all for moving some of them out and moving others in. Ghettoes of single language/belief/ethnicity do not bode well for the overall working of society. We need to drop a few more Poles into areas like Bradford or Southall. Drop a few more Asians into Essex. Drop some more Afro-caribbeans around the Whitechapel mosque. And make people work harder at all trying to live together and speaking English. The lessons of Northern Ireland and the Balkans is that 'ghetto-isation' is divisive and reinforces previously existing problems. Edited by PalazioVecchio (12 Nov 2016 2.01pm)

Just popped into this thread and I've missed all the fun. I always like to ask the England for English people what they mean by English. I have yet to receive a coherent response.

Is it balls mate..... I live in Bristol and within a 10 mile radius you have St Paul's and Easton areas. St Paul's is full of West Indians and Easton full of Asians. There is pretty much open warfare going on between them for control of the drug supply in Bristol. Whitey don't venture in either of those areas, and that includes "da police". That's just not true now is it? The problems with drug related crime and prostitution has started to move into Fishponds and Kingswood (predominantly white working class districts). This is mostly because St Pauls and Easton are on the up and up being close to the city centre and still relatively affordable. House prices have risen very sharply as the yuppies move in and the drug dealers have gone elsewhere. I've been told this by a local PC and a someone I know who works counselling drug users. Neither of them mentioned open warfare between West Indians and Asians, I've never seen it and the Bristol Post has never reported it. St Pauls and Easton are both about 3 mile from the city centre not 10. St Pauls is becoming gentrified quickly (just like Notting Hill and Brixton). Sure there are lots of Asian immigrants in Stapleton Road but they don't cause me any trouble whenever I've stopped to jump into the late night chemist or Tovey's the fishmongers. Sounds like you're a bit quick to play the race card to me. Oh and I often see plod in both St Pauls and Easton as I "venture" into both of them on my way to work every day. I feel like I just missed something. So a bloke got banned for using rather derogatory language presumably. Calling people offensive names is not going to go down too well on a public site. And there in lies the reason. Jumping straight in with racist language and no attempt to do anything but rant. It might have been a bit harsh, but he knew he was flaunting the rules, in his own post.

Except it wasn't, was it Michael? Ever been to Venice? Seen the medieval Jewish Ghetto? People were living apart pre war, in ghettos. It happens here as well. The Jews were forced to live apart in ghettos. That's why they had walls round them and single entrances in and out. Kind of like apartheid. You remember apartheid? Surely you know that the Jews didn't choose to live in ghettos? Kermit8's comment about the cosmopolitan nature of pre WWII Eastern Europe is true. That's why many towns and cities in the region have three different names, because three ethnic groups lived in them. Pozsony, Pressburg, Bratislave for example. The people didn't live separate lives, they spoke each others languages and did business together whilst retaining their own ethnic identities. I don't want to pretend that it was a multi cultural utopia because it wasn't but these people did live successfully as neighbours for many centuries.

I would agree but that is not an argument in favour of mass migration. It is merely confirmation that humans love to find ways to separate each other. some do, others don't

Edited by Pista (16 Nov 2016 9.46am) How long have you lived in Bristol? I've lived here since 1982. Fishponds is now an up and coming Somalian district judging by my visits to the health centre. Kingswood is not a part of Bristol I need or want to visit, but I seriously doubt that it is a worse place to visit than St Pauls or Easton at night. HTV and Points West have reported gun crime on Stapleton Rd at least 3 times this year to my knowledge involving Yardies and Asians. I said within a radius of 10 miles... so you narrowed it down to 3 miles... so what? St Pauls was last gentrified in the 1800's. The once lavish 4 storey townhouses are now damp ridden bedsits. I have a friend that was threatened with a knife in St Pauls 4 years ago at the carnival by a black gang of youths. You're a bit quick to dismiss the race card to me. Oh and I often see plod in both Frenchay and Stapleton (probably making an excuse not to have to go to St Pauls or Easton) as I "venture" into both of them in my retirement every day.
