I can't believe the winging on this site at times. Boo hoo hoo - I got told off for linking being black with being a c*nt! TUX would you have said that out loud if you were standing next to a black bloke?

And Willo. Shut up. If you can't see the difference between naming a dish after the region it originated and linking violent behaviour to skin colour then words fail me.

But if he HAD said it out loud standing next to a black bloke and it provoked the kind of reaction you're implying it would, wouldn't that kind of vindicate his comment? Should opinions be stifled just because someone might react with violence?

Very fair comment CF.

It always struck me that Charlie Hebdo set out to upset people. I don't think that would have been tolerated in Britain. It's just not what we do, set out to upset and wind up anyone or group.

That is why it was inappropriate. Labels can be mean things and we just aren't as naturally mean as the French. Oops...

Makes me laugh. We must have two million or so people with African and Carribbean heritage living in the UK yet some still see their skin colour and automatically think 'crime'.

How many of that two million are actually violent or into other anti-social misdemeanours? 10 per cent? 20?

That would still leave 1.6 million who deserve a bit more than 'guilt by colour'

Treat as you find. Even if living in an area where the crime committed is disproportionately by those of a certain ethnic background as the vast majority from that same background are not villains. Just normal folk going about their day.

Your sentiment is very fair minded but it is not born out by statistics. Despite black people only representing 2 or 3% of the population officially, knife crime/street crime is something like twice as likely to be committed by a black person. This is a reality. So 97% of the population commit half the knife crime than 3% roughly speaking.
So when people are making a judgment about who is likely to commit crime that will be in their minds. That is not racism, that is self preservation and I apologise to any that may offend.
Please feel free to dispute these figures because I'm grabbing them from memory.

The fine line of free speech. We should uphold it of course but the recent cartoons about Russian plane bombing victims demonstrates that those who exercise it should show some restraint on occasion. Especially after some of their own number were recently killed by terrorists.

What a surprise, blacks again.
For a 'minority', they seem to make more bad headlines than good. How come?
That poor lady will be scarred for the rest of her days.
Personally i'd shoot the f'ker who did this to her.

Cund.

You need to apologise for this statement and withdraw it.

It's bang out of order. You can't blame 'blacks' for the crime two morons committed.

I don't have to apologise or withdraw anything as I've said nothing that is factually incorrect.

Start again and try answering the question i posed.

Blaming a whole race for the actions of two people is wrong.

Suggest you meet some 'blacks' and ask them what is important to them and their community.

You will find that the black community is the highest attendees of church services in the uk, has a strong moral backbone and places family at the core of its existence.

You are lazy labelling. You sicken me.

Whilst I agree that it is not fair to blame a whole race for two idiots behaviour, the church line always makes me think of

One of the comments on Facebook

"Hardly touched her. Black people getting victimised again!"

It was made by a none white person, and he wasn't joking

Could you put a link to that please, I would like to see the reactions it must have received.

It was a reply to a reply to reply - there's now thousands so can't find it

But some tossers seem to be suggesting it was the old lady's fault! Like this one

Well exactly.. there are thousands of replies so that stands to reeason. You're going to get the odd person saying 'is there more to it?', you're going to get some people saying stupid things about the old lady, you're going to see several people spouting horribly racist stuff too. In fact there is much more of that there, but I don't see you clambering to copy and paste that.

The lack of depth there with those stats is it is not taking into account how a few of the same individuals could be responsible for many hundreds of crimes. You can't rationally call it 'black' crime when there are thousands of British Carribean families just living their peaceful lives but happen to be the same skin colour as that nasty lot down the road.

Gang crime 'yes'. Call it that.

There are more teenage gangs in Glasgow than London I believe. They don't commit 'white' crime. They commit crime.

Such a simple and simplistic label race. It is far more telling where people live than race if you want to look at their propensity to commit crime.

This is quite funny.
I've just been given a yellow card due to apparent racism on my part.
Can anyone tell me, in this thread, where i've been racist because i'm 'kin baffled lol.
Has 'Matt Himself' got 'himself' all wound up because he's unable to answer a question?

Mods.............Please show me where i've been racist. I look forward to your apology.

Certain opinions are banned now. Didn't you know? Even speculation about possible correlations are forbidden. It's what makes ours such a liberal and wonderful society.

People said they wanted freedom of speech defended at all costs after Charlie Hebdo. But they don't really, do they? Happy to offend Muslims, not so much the Afro-Carribean community.

All TUX did is suggest there was a trend, I don't think that is racist. I also don't agree with him, but he has a right to voice his opinion IMO.

Charlie Hebdo was ramped up by the media and politicians all walking hand in hand in that faux photo opportunity as way to usher in more restrictions for the general population not to stand up for anything. The same is happening in this country with the snooping bill.

They leverage peoples dislike of and detachment from Muslims as way of tightening the grip on everyone. That's not a good thing. Charlie Hebdo should be able to publlish whatever they want though yes. It would be a shame to have it any other way.

Wow that escalated quickly

So can we all agree that regardless of race, these two were a pair of grade A cunds, who deserve to be publicly flogged, but instead will probably be sent on a African Safari to show them the error of there ways.

One question that no one has asked, so I will, Say I was on that bus, and stepped in to help the old lady, and restrained the daft bitch until the Old Bill arrived, what then if she said I assualted her ?

This is why the general public dont help out any more, I know its an old example but look at the farmer who got banged up for shooting burglars IN HIS HOME, over here he gets banged up, in the USA he gets a medal.

There has to be something fundamentally wrong when passes by walk past a fellow human being in distress through fear of being prosicuted themselves.

Case in point what was the bloody bus driver doing ?

In about '97 I intervened when a gang of young lads were mugging another young lad in St Christopher's Place in the west end. This is a place full of high end shops with well heeled customers. Not one person did anything until I grabbed the leader and put him in an arm lock. Suddenly I had three or four people having a pop at me saying I should leave him alone (he was screaming in pain at this point). Even once I explained what was happening they said I was out of order and absolutely no help at all.

A very relevant point. It's true that people don't know when to step in as situations can change quickly and there's a lot of he said, she said to it.

In this case it was one punch and they were stupid enough to do it in front of security cameras so the best idea is to follow up after, rather than it becoming escalated. If you end up hitting a teenage girl even if in self defense or defense of others the perception of that will drown out the facts unfortunately.
