Why do we need so many mosques? Also what was the reason for the pub closing? Market forces.

basically what it say's in the title. i personally hope not (No offence)i am not racist at all just not something i wish to promote. The issue isn't one of religion per se, but the cultural adherence to the practice among immigrants and refugees from countries who bring it with them. Its incidence is higher among Muslims families, but from what I can tell the issue remains, irrespective of whether the family are Muslim, Anamist or Christian. It needs to be stamped out, entirely though, irrespective of nationality. Quote dannyh at 16 Jul 2015 8.59am
Again I was talking about the UK. Again to my knowledge no christians in the UK would stone to death or beat a child for being educated, nor would they want to, where as some of the sharia nutters in the UK want to be able to do exactly that, nor would they be made to marry someone they have never clapped eyes on, and yet this is common among the Islamic community. There are some, no doubt, but again Islam isn't the only religion that practices arranged marriages in the UK. Generally again the issue isn't so much one of Islam in specific, Hinduism has similar hardliners who view women as an object - The problems tend to be where immigration is recent and traditional cultural values have been retained. I'm not sure that many Muslims in the UK seem to want to stone women or beat children for being educated - although certainly there are some. Its important I feel to tackle these issues where they occur in the UK but invariably first generation and second generation migrants tend to cling to their home culture. The situations in the Sudan, Somalia, Afghanistan, Middle East etc have led to a lot of very primitive muslim cultures arriving in the UK. Of course there are Christian Right sects in the UK that campaign against Women's Rights. Women in Ireland are restricted in terms of reproductive rights by the force of Catholicism. The situation in all cases is abhorrent. Quote dannyh at 16 Jul 2015 8.59am
I wasn't talking about other backward nations, I was talking about the way Islam in Britain is percieved, and carried out by some people in Britain. Probably because most people seem to be focused on the extremists that make the news, rather than the family down the street. I've known quite a few Muslims now never met any that seemed to be anything other than normal people. I've known a few who like to drink (in moderation) and some that are even atheist. I worked with a guy for five years who fled Iran, nothing about him was anything other than kindly and generous. Quote dannyh at 16 Jul 2015 8.59am
We in this country are by and large a forward thinking bunch with racism (ironically) being now more the premise of the angsty enthnic youth. Any trip down West Croydon and Fort neeth will prove my point. Definitely true, Islam itself isn't the problem, specific kinds of Islam are the problem. Same with all religions, there are those which are integrated or sane, and those that simply reject out of hand anything they don't understand. The problem is we tend to see Islam, Christian, Hindu, rather than understanding that each of these has a massive diversity within them, stretching from Nutbar looney to the most pleasant. And just to sort of quantify what I am saying, on the one hand the Christians have the Vicar of Dibley, the Muslims have Abu Hamzar Al-Masri. See my point ?

Sorry that should be Britain First claim themselves to be a Christian Fundamentalist movement, the founder Jim Dowson, has links with Loyalist and Anti-Abortion groups across the UK like the UK Life League and describes himself as a Scottish Christian Fundamentalist.

It's sad that we're losing our pubs and we're losing everything that is British. What was once a focal point is now no more. I've never been to that pub, but from what I can see it has potential to be a great pub and with better control it would be a success. I know people will say I'm racist and to them I say suck my balls.

I know people will say I'm racist and to them I say suck my balls. It probably will be, unless they grow out of religion like the once Christian UK has. I'd like to think that the followers have their origins in less progressive nations and will eventually see sense. Although we wound up favouring drinking and football over going to church so this is quite a significant indication of the change in demand. It's unusual when a pub isn't turned in to flats and makes me wonder what's going on when a local authority isn't motivated by the council tax revenue. It will hopefully aleviate your worries in a few years if mosques start turning in to flats like churches have.

I know people will say I'm racist and to them I say suck my balls. Problem the Portmannor had was two fold. Firstly the company owning it went bankrupt. Secondly, it was really only ever busy on match days. When I used to go in there after each game, on a Saturday, it was busy until about 7pm and then largely dead (except for us and a few others). That probably changed once the HF made it their local, but then that brought additional headaches regarding license approval from the police (unfairly) and I'm not sure it was really that busy other than on Match Days. Shame, as I really liked it. But then not many people like dingy, bit run down boozers.

People seem to think that an all size fits one approach to Mosques applies, it doesn't like Christianity different sects and faiths have different mosques. Arguably the group moving into the site have a great reputation for community work and social interaction, and there presumably is a sizable Muslim population willing to use it. I see no problem with a mosque for this particular faith, in an area that's 'seen better days'.
